New Vivian Girls Video - "Tell The World"

thumbnail icon: New Vivian Girls Video - "Tell The World"

I've said this all before, but the Vivian Girls play a great hazy blend of classic C86 (check out Shop Assistants or Talulah Gosh) with high doses of Jesus & Mary Chain distortion and Spectored three-part harmonies. They're also clearly influenced by first wave Slumberland acts like Black Tambourine and K-associated twee-poppers Tiger Trap. All that said, they bring more than enough of their own angle to the template. They also timed the reissue of their self-titled full-length just right: It, along with the work of fellow noise-pop revivalists Crystal Stilts, is perfect fall music. In the Timothy Fiore-directed video for "Tell The World" they take turns at the wheel, driving their car in front of a green-screened forest, where they battle bats, stare ahead at the road unblinking, and ultimately find themselves in some sort of "Young Goodman Brown" soiree.

Reminiscent of the video work of fellow forest-yearning Brooklynites, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson and MGMT, but impressive how long they go without smiling. If you want to hear more, they recently premiered a Daisy Chain cover in the 'Gum Drop and there's another worthwhile album track, "Where Do You Run To."

Vivian Girls is out 10/7 on In The Red. They're currently on tour. (This is what they look like on stage.)

Great song. Terrible video. The first half is so poorly executed and lit I can barely see what's on the screen behind them.

These chicks are better heard and not seen. The drummer looks like fucking Velma from Scooby Doo.

Can't say much about this release. But I've been listening to In The Red's other recent release, Davila 666 NONSTOP. Incredible album. One of my candidates for album of the year.

Okay assholes why does it always turn into how "sexy" girls have to be in indie rock when guys are allowed to look like shit like Mr. Khan and Jay Reteard(or however you spell it) and soooooooooooooo many others? Anyway the song is really cool
