New Weezer Video - "Troublemaker"

thumbnail icon: New Weezer Video - "Troublemaker"

Even with a live show constantly steering toward pomp and excess, and a year full of populist projects (see: fan-collaborative songwriting projects and Hootenannys and etc.), the video for "Troublemaker" really just has to be the logical extension of it all. (It won't be.) Rivers and gang called a bunch of =w= lovers, and an official from the Guinness Book of World Records, to the Forum in L.A. to film a video while also attempting to set records for things like Most People In A Custard Pie Fight, World's Smallest Drum Kit (Pat Wilson), and World's Worst L.A. Gang Member Impersonation.

The guys are having fun. I support it. Here's a list of the records set that day:

Largest Air Guitar Ensemble
The largest air guitar ensemble consisted of 233 participants and took
place during during the filming of the music video "Troublemaker" by
the band Weezer in Los Angeles, California, USA on 21 August 2008.

Largest Game of Dodgeball
The largest game of dodgeball consisted of two teams of 50 people (100
total) who played against each other during the filming of the music
video "Troublemaker" by the band Weezer in Los Angeles, California,
USA, on 21 August 2008.

Longest Guitar Hero World Tour Marathon
The longest Guitar Hero World Tour Marathon lasted for 10 hr 12 min 54
sec during the filming of the music video "Troublemaker" by the band
Weezer in Los Angeles, California,USA, on 21 August 2008.

Most People in a Custard Pie Fight
The most people in a custard pie fight was 120 during the filming of
the music video "Troublemaker" by the band Weezer in Los Angeles,
California, USA, on 21 August 2008.

Most People Riding on a Skateboard

music video "Troublemaker" by the band Weezer in Los Angeles,

horrible horrible video. I thought Rivers was done with his Fred Durst fascination.

Actually, with his hairnet and wifebeater, he looks like he's going for more of a Mike Patton thing.

Does anyone else see the same Nokia advertising here that caused a commotion about the new Fall Out Boy video? I see "random" shots of a suited gent with a Nokia phone at 1:30, 2:26, and 2:46-ish. Same style as the Fall Out Boy dilemma, seems a little out of place.

It's in the new Katy Perry video too.

Was that video sponsored by Nokia?

No, and it's been pulled. Here's an article I just googled

I miss the days when Weezer's song structure wasn't so simplistic / lazy / boring.

as woefully and vacantly indulgent as the W filled with chips and cheese - and seeing those acoustic guitars take the hurt for a weezer video is a sad sight to see

whatever dudes, that was the funniest video i've seen in a while. that probably has a lot to do with the fantastic tom delonge impression at 1:40.

oh, and also the girl getting hit in the face with a dodgeball.

i can't believe people are taking weezer seriously. the reason they're pretty great is cause they aren't.

serious.

they used to be fairly serious. and fairly good. it's like they aren't even trying. listen to the life and catharsis on pinkerton. this band doesn't even resemble that glorious band of old.

Serious or not, that doesn't change the fact that their lyrics and most of their music sucks, these days. Rivers is a lazy, unimaginative songwriter, anymore. It's sad. The band used to take the quality of their music seriously, even when they were goofing around. Pinkerton is a pretty goofy album in places, but there's no question that the band (or more specifically, Rivers) took the quality of the songs 100% seriously.

Sometime in 2001-2002, the band really stopped caring. Now, they just seem to knock out whatever tunes come into their heads, with little or no refinement. It's sad. I still love the guys, but they've lost that rockin' feeling, so to speak. I wish they'd disbanded after Maladroit -- and that's something I never thought I'd say.

I don't think that the guy's in Weezer are actually having fun. I think Rivers wakes up from his bed made out of money surrounded by beautiful women, puts his red nose and oversized shoes looks in the mirror and ask him self "Really? do I have to do this again today? Why lord.. Why?"

Boy, it must be easy to set a record for longest specific video game marathon when said video game isn't even released yet.

(GH4, also known as GH: Abortion, also known as GH: We Ripped Off Rock Band Completely, doesn't come out until the last weekend in October)

because weezer has that certain sense of humor that readers of this site pretend to understand! you know - the ones who were 7 years old when the blue album dropped

Dude, what the hell happened to Weezer? Every album i guess after the green album just went down hill, maladroit isn't nearly as bad. They're lyrics just sound like they're all going through mid life crisis. Damn....rivers you disappoint me :/
