New Bishop Allen Video - "True Or False" (Stereogum Premiere)

thumbnail icon: New Bishop Allen Video - "True Or False" (Stereogum Premiere)

You've heard a couple of tracks from Bishop Allen's third album Grr.... Now you can see one. The Brooklyn group's on tour right as we speak -- It'd be great if their live show included as many smiling flappers as they do in this chipper black and white "True Or False" clip. (Or any smiling flappers, really.) It was directed by Randy Bell with choreography by Andrea Delmonico. The song itself is sung by BA's Darbie Nowatka Rice while the guys -- now with more facial hair -- hold it down otherwise.

Grr... is out via Dead Oceans. As mentioned, Bishop Allen's out on tour, where you can expect to hear some post-Grr... sounds as well.

This band embodies everything annoying about indie rock today, but at least the guy isn't singing on this track.

Please enlighten me about what you hate about indie rock so much in today's world. Is it because this band is actually having fun? Is that not allowed in your pretentious world of mope? Feel the need to stare at your shoes some more?

This sort of cutesy-poo, self-conciously multi-instrumental kiddy pop is just so tired at this point. Better artists can get away with it because they write melodies that stick, or they have voices with a hint of personality or maybe they include more challenging or unique elements to grab on to. This band does none of these things. They are so boring, so bland and just so indicative of the most tiresome indie today.

And Boone knocks the previous commenters moronic post out of the park. Well said Boone, hate to see attractive people being creative and having fun. What a sad nerd NLP must be - this video rocks!

Video Director: "Sorry Bishop Allen, I wasn't able to get the actual old cameras to make your video look legit. I don't know anyone with digital video editing talent either. And the cinematographer is my 12-year-old daughter"
Bishop Allen: "That's ok, we'll just use a home video camera from the early 90's and make it black and white."

I did sound for these guys when they toured earlier this year (late last year?). While pleasant to chat with, their demeanor as a band is heavy heavy on the indie pretense that I think NLP is annoyed by. Speaking of annoying, thanks for your comments boone and chris.

where do you do sound? if i ever play there i will be sure to use a demeanor that isn't heavy on indie pretense, whatever that means.

"Indie Pretense" ? Good Lord. "Indie Pretense" I'd be interested in how they gave off this vibe Justin - even though these guys were nice to you, was it hard for you to pay attention to them? Did you just have the words "INDIE PRETENSE" pounding in your brain while they were talking? "wait till i get on Stereogum and accuse these guys of Indie Pretense.

You all only hate Bishop Allen cause they are happy people. I for one support them, especially when they aren't trying to push their religion on me.
