New Bob Dylan Video - "Must Be Santa"

thumbnail icon: New Bob Dylan Video - "Must Be Santa"

Robert Zimmerman's Christmas In The Heart polka gets itself a jolly house party video complete with dancing, drinking, fighting, short shorts, and an empathetic Santa. It was directed by Nash Edgerton, who did "Beyond Here Lies Nothing." Unlike that clip, which starred Amanda Aardsma and Joel Stoffe, here lies Bobby long-hair cautiously carrying a candle, sipping wine, cutting a rug, etc.

If you're in a quieter mood, though, there's always Crystal Antlers's unrelated cover of Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue." Oddly enough. Consider it a stocking stuffer:

Crystal Antlers - "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" (Bob Dylan Cover) (MP3)
(via Weekly Tape Deck via Fader)

Christmas In The Heart is out via Sony. It's worth noting "all of the artist's U.S. royalties from sales of these recordings will be donated to Feeding America, guaranteeing that more than four million meals will be provided to more than 1.4 million people in need this year's holiday season." You'll find more info at dylanchristmas.

1. Is that long hair real?
2. What inspired the creation of his Christmas album?
3. Has Bob Dylan completely lost his mind?

Wait a second...
Isn't he Jewish?
(disclaimer: I'm well aware he went through a huge Christian phase, and I am aware that Christmas, although it contains the word "Christ" in its name, is no longer a Christian only holiday. I'm just trying to have a little laugh. I also know if you have to explain yourself then it isn't funny.)

He converted to Christianity in the 1980s.

The video complements the song perfectly! Funny stuff. The Crystal Antlers cover is nice too, seems to be equally inspired by the melody from the Them cover of the same song.

1. No, it is a wig.
2. All of Dylan’s royalties from the album benefit Feeding America and other international charities. From the man himself - “It’s a tragedy that more than 35 million people in this country alone — 12 million of those children — often go to bed hungry and wake up each morning unsure of where their next meal is coming from."
3. Obviously you know nothing of the genius of Dylan. The man has never played by anyone's rules but his own. He is totally off his rocker, always has been and that is what makes him one of the most unique and compelling figures in history.

Mr. poopypants, your screen name accurately reflects your personality.

["Obviously you know nothing of the genius of Dylan."]

I was just poking fun at a goofy video. I'm aware Mr. Dylan isn't trying to start a revolution with his Must Be Santa cover. I'm also aware that he does whatever people don't expect him to do (Self titled album of covers, abandoning the hippie movement, Victoria's Secret commercial, etc, etc.). None of this is news to me.

Lighten up, hipster.

Using a screen name like Spikelee3000 with a photo of Andrew WK is a pathetic attempt to gain hipster cred. By posting lame questions to appear funny or goofy makes you look even more like a douchebag.

I on the other hand cannot control my bowels and shit myself on a regular basis.

I don't think Spike Lee has anything to do with hipsters, and Andrew WK is just a goofball. Starting arguments on the internet is the sign of a true douchebag, Mr. Poopypants. Besides, if I wanted "hipster cred," I'd be kissing your hipster ass right now.

Ya, that was stupid for me to say but dude, seriously stop posting this shit on a music blog. The reason i said something was because you were being a douch by posting your shit comments, lets talk music for once on this fucking blog instead of posting sarcastic opinion to everything.

On a lighter side, I'm curious, Has Dylan made any christmas albums in the past? And does anybody recommend it?

No, he has never made a Christmas album before, but he has made records with overtly Christian themes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saved_(album)

Okay getting back on topic.. I love Dylan and follow every album he's released, the man is truly a living legend and we should all be thankful he is still continuing to make music to this day... Okay with that being said.. Has anyone ACTUALLY heard this new Christmas album? ? I ask this because I think it's the worst thing I've heard in ages! Don't get me wrong now... like I said, I loved Together Through Life & Modern Times, they are both brilliant albums and all but this new benefit-album totally blows!! I mean listen to "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" and tell me it's not the funniest shit you've ever heard? Seems to me like the formula he used in Together Through Life he has used it once more to create this Christmas album, but it just does not work. I'm confused since I don't know if Dylan is actually singing in this way and thinking it actually works or if he is intentionally just doing an imitation of his own self. The only way to put this to rest is to ask yourself this: Would you play this record for family/friends over the holidays? What do you all think their reaction would be when they heard the scary growl of Dylan singing such precious and soothing Christmas songs? Idk... with time, maybe this album will be one of those albums "that's so bad, it's good" because people will have a laugh at how awful it sounds. Alright there's my two cents on that. Fellow Dylan-ologists can begin to hate me starting...

right...

NOW!

Btw, poppypants is a douche. (sorry poopy).

This video is hilarioius, good to see the old timer still having a good time. I think it's also awesome that all of the proceeds from the Xmas album are going to help a good cause. Dylan's still the man.
