New Coldplay Videos - "Viva La Vida"
Yes, "videos" plural. If you're like me, you assumed the iTunes commercial was the official video for Coldplay's "Viva La Vida." But no, there are two new videos to absorb as part of Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends's revolutionary snore. The official clip, directed by Hype Williams, is basically the iTunes commercial, but longer. In the alternate Anton Corbijn-directed take we see Chris Martin sleeping on the street again, awaking in his royal crown and cloak to survey his fallen kingdom. The text at Youtube says it was "made out of love for Depeche Mode and the genius of Anton Corbijn." Enjoy the silence:

haha the second one was good
i thought at the end, the rest of the band was going to take away his box.

even if the website itself gives the album a good review, it seems that the "Hate on Coldplay no matter what" rule still applies. Great job, Stereofork
Score = 0
I don't dislike this song by by any means, but the first video was really stupid. Ignore the itunes commercial or whatever prejudiced you are going into the first video with. Seriously, it's actually ridiculous. I can barely watch it without feeling embarrassed for Chris Martin.
Score = 0
the second one could have used george micheal in a jetpack and tobias in a mole costume.
Score = 5
"i'm very particular about building codes!"

I really hate Stereogum's coverage of Coldplay. You claim the music is boring yet you post it anyways. Thanks... For our pleasure? If you like the album please post about it, but if you don't like it then what is the point of repeatedly driving the point home, once is enough.
Score = 1
Stereogum is an online music news, reviews, etc. So this is basically news and they presented it. I believe they are allowed to post about what they dislike. Hate it? Suggestion: Don't read it.
Score = 2
I realize that. I just dislike the snide manner in which they post it. If it is truly news then it should be presented in an unbiased fashion. Implying the band is boring, twice, undermines that.
Score = -1
Aww, the second one is adorable. Chris walking around in a silly king costume. The first video is lame and boring though, it shouldn't be the official one.
Score = 0
Bono looks pretty good. oh, wait...
oh, and nice jazz hands in the first video.
Score = 1
at first i thought the second one was going to be a burger king commercial
Score = 1
The Hype Williams video really isn't very good.
That said, in journalism, you can either be biased or not. You can't have it both ways.
If it's newsworthy and you're a news organization, fine, but you don't get to take cheap shots like citing the Travelodge online poll at the same time you're attempting legitimate criticism (I'm looking at you, Sasha Frere-Jones). If you want to be a tabloid gossip blog you can trash Coldplay all you want because you're making a career out of smarm and bitchery. If you're trying to be both, then: you're Pitchfork, and you're a parody of yourself.
But for some reason, with Coldplay it's okay. They're everyone's favorite scapegoat. Can someone name a band that is posted about in the blogosphere solely for the sake of derision even half as often as Coldplay? It's really getting tedious.
Score = 3
the first one is simply pathetic, but the alt version gave me quite a laugh.
i don't know who ever thought the burger king scheme would play out well...
chris martin really can't be serious as a hobo-king.
i'd still do him, though.
Score = 1
First one wasn't nearly the same as the iTunes ad, unless you think all vids with digital backgrounds are identical. Well, and, um, it had like one-shots and wide group shots. And the song was the same.

I love the first video, there's a painting in the back with differents techniques inflences including the bright in chris martins eyes is amazing revealing ciaro oscuro technique, the crackeling surface imitating old canvas is good too , and sudenly the painting is alive and the skies are moving and the flag is bluring but you know is there, definitely VIVA LA VIDA by frida Khalo inspired more than the album and song titles, Viva La Vida or Death and all his friends, Cold Play visited Frida Khalo's house during their time in mexico City.

WHAT ARE THE LYRICS ABOUT? GIVE IT A GO. THE INSTRUMENTALS ARE GREAT!
OK I GO FROM MIDNIGHT OIL, STONES, COLD PLAY, 3 DOORS DOWN. ECLECTIC. I APPRECIATE DIVERSITY.
