New Dave Matthews Video - "Eh Hee"

Maybe it's remnant guilt from playing that $15,000-a-head concert series, 'cause Dave's in the mood for giving. And so Mr. Matthews of "you loved him high school but now he's totally not cool" fame offers up a free download of the vid for "Eh Hee," a stand-alone single Dave put together in the studio by his lonesome (all vox, instruments, etc.). It marks the occasional thespian's directorial debut, and the clip also gives Dave a chance to flex those facial contortion chops; filmed in Seattle and featuring local modern dance troupe zoe | juniper, the vid sees DM act out his existential lyrics while in a barber's chair with lots of his trademark schizophrenic smiling/frowning/wincing/howling. Grab for free (for a week, starting today) at iTunes.

UPDATE: YouTube after the jump...

Well, it's not the worst thing he's put out in the past decade.

I just grabbed the free download at Itunes and watched it - very very cool! Definitely worth a watch, darkly funny and strange. And a great performance by Dave, looks like it was all done in one take, with some really weird timing or something. I'll have to watch it a few more times and try to figure it out!

It's a trippy video, Dave twitching around, it's pretty cool.

Now that I've actually spent some time with the song/video, I can honestly say that I love it. I'm not a huge fan of Dave's music - some of his stuff is just a little bland for me - but I love it when he gets funky, as he does here. I also actually enjoy is odd, jerky movements and gestures. It's a good weirdness.

The whole package - music, video, Dave's movements, etc. - kind of reminds me of Peter Gabriel. Which is a good thing.

Reminds me of halloween...It's so cool...a cross between "Don't Drink the Water", "Halloween", and "Save Me", and with that babershop chair and skit a little bit of Stay(wastin' time)(remember the video, dave's getting a shave...blah blah)
Anyway, I love all of Dave's and the DMB's work I hope they keep doing new things, and that the album is comming soon. thanks DAVE! you fuckin' ROCK!!!

This Eh-Hee video seems to be brutalized and brutal mankind, with writhing, agonized dancers in the background on a platform of sand (can you say 'Iraq'?). It appears to connote the insanity of humankind, and life in general (if one cares to dig below the hype of sanitized 'history'). Bravo. Very disturbing.

My cousin is one of the dancers in this video. She said it was just as trippy to make as it is to watch. They were dancing in flour! She said Dave was really nice though. I love DMB and I think this video is interesting!

The bios unfair and negatively derrogative while simultaneously listing his ingenius credentials.. the song is comprised of only dave... vocals, instruments.. video stars and directed by dave.... EVERY artist hits a creative peak.. U2 putting out albums as good as they were in their prime? i hear the stones are still alive, hows their new material? DMBs been kicking since 1993, and yes in bulk there stuff isnt as good, but some individual songs (and mind you they will forever be a live band) are still fantastic....... OH and that remark on the $15,000 show, where do you think his good friend tim reynolds plays all year? giants stadium? no.. Dave helped a buddy out, soo take that up your pipe an smoke it

To Indie Rock Fans: Dave matthews is the best thing that came out of the nineties. I hated him in high school. But now that I am out of college and more mature I find his melodic, rythmic, jazzy, SINCERE musical style infinitely insightful and inpiring. When young, it is hard to decipher what is contrived and what is genuine. DMB is often mistaken for contrived, but as a mature musician I can promise you he is the real thing. His band is Phenomenal geniuses. DMB is a phenom your kids adn their kids will be talking about. They are immensely popular for a good reason, unlike Brittney Spears. The indie rock is a phase, I hope you will discover this one day, as I did. Maybe you will stubbornly hold onto you "Indie" ideals. Good luck with that. If not, Pick up "Busted Stuff" it is his best CD for an Indie rock fan. trust me.(i was once very anti- dave matthews)
