New Fountains Of Wayne Live Video - "Radiation Vibe"
The post Traffic And Weather activity from FoW has been mostly limited to songs for The Colbert Report and spots for L.L. Bean, but it appears the NJ power poppers are ready to indulge in some retrospective activity. There's a spread of shows lined up around the Northeast the next few weeks with no new material, in addition to a new live DVD titled No Better Place: Live In Chicago. It was filmed in '05, ergo a setlist that spans the sweetspot from Fountains Of Wayne to Welcome Interstate Managers. From that set, here's a take on the sugared hooks and harmonies of "Radiation Vibe." Re: the guy at 1:57 - I didn't realize people danced like that at Fountains' shows.
No Better Place: Live In Chicago is out 3/3 via Shout! Factory. Here's the tracklist:
"I've Got A Flair"
"Mexican Wine"
"Janice's Party"
"No Better Place"
"Denise"

"Valley Winter Song"
"Sick Day"
"Red Dragon Tattoo"
"Stacy's Mom"
"Bright Future In Sales"

Love me some FOW. One of their best songs, gonna have to pick up the DVD!

ONE of their best songs? how about their ONLY good song?
nice of fairly old, used up bands to try to relive their glory by repackaging shit. fuck them.
Score = -3
wow, their lead singer really seems into the performance.
Score = 1
sink to the bottom was the best

fuck you, erm, fuck. FOW rules.

Damn fuck@7:53pm. Did FoW run over your dog or something?
Always been a fan of theirs (though I did think Traffic and Weather was kinda meh). Straight-up super-infectious power pop has always been underrated. I'll be picking up the dvd.

yep i think its official, the mid 90s have that magical mid 80s 'thing' going for it:) not SO much for the obvious bands, a la Radiohead/SP/Nirvana, but the dozens n dozens of other great fucking acts that kinda got lost in the mix with their 1 or 2 great cds. There was SO much great music from 93-98, i'd like to see them all rise again, maybe some of them should band together like the 80s metal boys?? *I*d fucking go see Cracker/Frank Black/FoW AND/OR Superdrag...Afghan Whigs etc. in a heartbeat:D SERIOUSLY, those bands could fill up giant arenas n make plennnty 'o dough.

I will second the Superdrag shout out. Great band that so many people need to listen to. Great great pop song writing. They should have been huge.
Score = 0
I will third the Superdrag shoutout. They have a new album out in March, first one after a long hiatus, so now's a good a time as any to start listening to them. The first FoW record is a classic.

Excellent news on the FoW DVD! Get a Teenage Fanclub DVD on the shelves by Christmas and I'll be happy.

The footage looks like it is from the episode of Soundstage that they did for PBS, that was also running on the now defunct Rave HD channel. That channel would show the same shows in a loop. Still loved it though.
Score = 0
It *is* from the Soundstage ep; I was there for the taping--and they cut a *lot* out to condense it down to <30 mins that was broadcast (and which they combined with footage of the All American Rejects, which, ugh).
Guess I'll be picking up this DVD...
