New Hercules & Love Affair Video - "You Belong"

thumbnail icon: New Hercules & Love Affair Video - "You Belong"

Following up on Serge Santiago's super remix for "Blind," today brings another excuse to keep our Hercules love affair rolling with the video for the Chicago-styled house jam "You Belong." The clip, like the song, prominently featuring the beautiful Nomi (whose transsexual charms famously fooled a couple few commenters a little bit ago) and like the show at Studio B, does not feature Antony. There are background dancers because as Andy said, it's the album's most straightforward dance track. You'll spot him in there (as pictured): in monk and playing with futuristic hand toys while Kim Ann works on some underground cocktails in a place that's somewhere between C&C Music Factory meets San Dimas in 2688 A.D.

Hercules & Love Affair is out via DFA/EMI. Grab their "Theme" right here.

Does anyone care about this band in real life, i.e., not on Pitchfork or a blog? I accept Antony and all that, but this music is just fucking tacky.

My suspicion is that most people would have no trouble dancing to this at a club but you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who would put it on at home. So I guess it's made for club DJs and not the likes of you or me.

i assure you there are many of us who do care, and not being bland guitar-based indie does not make it "tacky." i admit, it's definitely a certain aesthetic, but those with a knowledge and appreciation for the last 30 years of club music understand.

"Fucking tacky?" That's rich, coming from someone who's fucking ignorant. Just wait until H&LA blows up and thrusts the hipsters toward real dance music whether they like it or not.

You can like it all you want, but it's still tacky. Also, I suspect you probably run a blog you're very proud of, which disqualifies you from responding to my question. Also, House = Hipster Disco = Tacky.

house has nothing to do with your hipster community kid... wake up.

Stop being such a nationalist. Hipster is not an exclusively American, indie rock aesthetic. They're everywhere, each with their own dress codes and idioms. House = Hipster Disco, and that's a fact.

you know, unlike others, i was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt as someone who is just unfamiliar with the history of dance music. now that i see you dismissing "house," a genre with 25 years of history and a worldwide following, as "hipster disco" just proves that you are a dip. it's one thing to not like a certain style of music for reasons of personal taste. it's quite another to attempt to speak authoritatively about that which you obviously know nothing about.

it is essentially house music, it wouldn't have been out of place at sound factory. you either like house music, or you don't. as a guy who was in one of the 'houses' in ny, i enjoy it.

Love the song and the video with Nomi makes it even better. I really care about H&LA in real life <3.

I'm loving "Blind" but as far as the rest..meh. That being said, I can see how in a club it would be fine to dance to.

i listen to dance music on my ipod, in my apt...wherever i can. if you're into dance music you don't necessarily have to be in a club to listen to it...that's like saying you have to be at Lincoln Center to listen to Classical music. H&LA is not breaking new ground but it's good dance music and we need more good dance music.
