New Lou Barlow Video - "Don't Apologize" (Stereogum Premiere)

thumbnail icon: New Lou Barlow Video - "Don't Apologize" (Stereogum Premiere)

No doubt, apologies are a large part of the Lou Barlow canon: Apologizing, wanting someone to apologize, etc. (Barlow would be the first to admit EMOH earned its name.) On his second proper solo album Goodnight Unknown, Barlow finds a way to revisit said heartache-y canon -- think the emotionally barest of Sebadoh, Sentridoh -- while updating and filling-out the sound in a natural enough way. (Like adding Melvins' Dale Crover on drums.) You've likely heard the lead track "Gravitate," which Barlow described as "a good combination of my least accessible Sentridoh stuff and my most successful Folk Implosion stuff." That combo also shows up on "Don't Apologize." Hear for yourself in this Adam Harding-directed praying-mantis-from-space video treatment. Besides the bug, a stuffed mouse, Lou, and some self-referential art on the walls, you'll also spot Imaad Wasif and Crover. It's the first of six Goodnight Unknown videos.

You can also check out this 30-minute making of Goodnight Unknown, if you want the nitty gritty.

Eventually, all Goodnight-related clips will be housed at Lootube.

Hey Lou, nobody gives a shit! Jesus Christ I have never in my life watched anything more unbearable in my life than the first 5 mins of that "documentary". I'm sure if you ask this guy where he ranks himself in the history of music he would say "I'm pretty much a coward, but I've done this amazing thing, like I brought a daughter into this world, which was pretty pathetic and cowardly and also important enough to make a film about."

Avermitsky - you a-hole - ... what is wrong with you?!.. And what the hell are you talking about?!

This video is great, Lou Barlow is great - this gives rare (generous) insight to the working mind, setup and locations to one of the best songwriters of our time - people like me a grateful Lou... all the best.

Barlow's always been a C+ musician and everything I've ever read and (now because of this movie preview) seen of him paints the unflattering picture of a sulky attention starved white guy who never got over the beating J Mascais handed out to him during Dino's first go around. Again Lou, the nineties called and you weren't popular than either. Oh and Guided By Voices called... etc

If anyone sounds like a bitter asshole, it's you, avermitsky. Calling LB 'attention starved' is ridiculous. In most respects, he is the *only* person in either Dinosaur or Sebadoh that cares enough to do things like videos, interviews, in-store appearances, etc ... And sure, he was bitter in the 90s about Dinosaur but if you had half a brain or read any of the 2,3, 4 hundred "dinosaur rises from extinction' articles in the last 4 years, then you'd know that he totally owned to that behavior and isn't exactly proud of it.

In 4 years, will you admit you're an ass as well ?
