New Maroon 5 Video - "Makes Me Wonder"

Five short years after Songs About Jane swept the airwaves and ruled the TRL set, Maroon 5 are back to work. It won't be long before It Won't Be Soon Before Long is out soon. (Believe it or not, that sentence makes complete sense, give or take a soon.) And five years on, Adam Levine is still sorta dreamy, still has a vaguely Jay Kay vocal-thing going on, and still likes vids that feature him and gorgeous women making bodily contact. Also, the band would like you to know that they enjoy wearing men's formalwear.

all of a sudden maroon 5 adherents come out of the wood work. and they're all love it or leave it doofuses. believe me, a few critical comments won't dent your beloved stereogum. a bunch of posts like this one will kill it though.

So, you people think that Maroon 5's record label, with a lot of cash to spend in hand, decided that a mostly indie rock blog frequented by people who will (claim?) to hate the band they are trying to promote would be the perfect place to shell out lots of cash to get the word out about a band that everyone and their 60 year old grandmother already knows about? Right, makes sense to me. One of two things are going on here. 1. It is nearing the end of another day of indie rock goodness and, for shits and giggles, the folks at Stereogum have decided to rile up the self righteous music snobs for the entertainment of us all. Or, 2. this record label has shelled out tons of cash to blogs like this before because you ultra-hipster types have a history of arousing yourselves by bitching about mainstream music while you're on the internet and then immediately logging off and rushing to the nearest Virgin Mega Store to pick up a copy of "Songs About Jane."

I just finished my freshman year of high school when Songs About Jane came out. I was in love with M5.

It really is depressing to outgrow a band I was previously obsessed with. And it's not like this song is any worse than anything off of the first album, it's just that I can't bring myself to groove along to their faux-funk riffs or 90's pop drum machines anymore. But hell, I'm sure the new album will be the soundtrack to a lot of middle school drama this year,

I love Maroon5, love the video--it is so ridonculous with the groping its perfect. Better than all the other videos they did too. Did anyone see that Sophie Muller Piece of Shit?

I love the idea of resurrecting 1999. Its not like "indie" rock bands don't do that kind of derivative shit all the time THEY JUST DON'T GET PAID FOR IT!!! I mean how many bands do I have to listen to who are trying to be Joy Division who are trying to be the Pixies who are trying to be Roxy Music? Blah!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

No seriously... M5 are pretty big in Williamsburg. I was in this coffee shop and Ed Droste was working behind the counter and he was talking to Kyp Malone. Someone's mix was playing and in between Deerhunter and Jandek was M5's "This Love." Ed and Kyp high fived and were bopping around the counter. I was singing that song for the rest of the day.

not saying these bands can't repent - but they have lost valuable time. there are so many better, smaller bands out there that get no recognition.

he whole indie thing is shit anyway, basically indie means you listen to a whole bunch of music that few people outside of the little indie realm have heard of. While a lot of this music is quite good, there is a whole world of music outside of indie. But can the namby pamby little indie snobs listen to it noooo, they have to be genre specific.

Point is, I like this song and before I would have said, "that song totally sucked" then I would have listened to it in secret and even sang along.

Secretely most of you are listening to this very song thinking, "hey this is pretty good." ADMIT IT!!

excellent debate. high fives all around. extra points for superb usage of the word bopping.

i just returned from a 3 month trip backpacking through southeast asia and i heard M5 about as often as I heard Bob Marley, which is to say several times a day. Even in remote hill-tribe villages (really). That made me pretty sad. And it made me even sadder (more sad?) when I still couldn't bring myself to fully hate them.

i do dig the riff on this chorus.

enough. time to listen to summa that new hot chip dj kicks...

This video is nice and the song is very catchy. I see a lot of posts up here bashing Marron 5. Why? I bet over half these people couldn't play a chord on a guitar or drum a beat. This band is talented, and just because they have a unique sound doesn't mean they need to be bashed. Different Strokes for different folks, people. I dig it. And I like stuff from Andrea Bochelli to Alter Bridge to George Strait. You naysayers need to free your mind a little.

Video is craptacular cheese at it's worst, but the song is fantastic. There's no shame in liking a well written, slick piece of ear candy every now and then. I don't get the indie snobbery - there's room for all kinds of music whatever one's tastes are. In any case I'm sure they'll be laughing all the way to the bank. I know they made their money off of me. Makes Me Wonder prompted me to buy the new tracks, and I must say he's a damn fine pop song writer. It's not the stuff that legends are made of, but it's hella better than what's passing for music on the radio these days.

Video is still craptacular though. That's 3 minutes I'll never get back.
