New Paul McCartney Video - "222"
The last official Paul McCartney video we posted came via Michel Gondry and starred Macca along with Natalie Portman and a bunch of raving ghosts. This Marco Sandeman-directed clip for Memory Almost Full bonus track "222" takes a darker, more minimalist and psychedelic route. It looks a bit like a high school science experiment. As far as the song? Something very Vince Guaraldi-on-Spoon going on here.
Add this to the bluesy in-the-red rock swing of "Nothing Too Much Just Out Of Sight" and the guy doesn't really sound like an artist signed to Starbucks.

This one sounds precisely like an artist signed to Starbucks. But as that kind of thing goes, it's not too bad. Spoon is an elaborate hoax on the stupid hipsters of the world, but this at least is music. In these degenerate times, I'm not surprised that a music blogger isn't aware that it's the same music Stereolab was making seven or eight years ago. But that was pretty decent music, so no harm no foul. On Macca, I mean. On you, shame, shame, shame. You should be aware of Stereolab, for God's sake.

I'm aware of Stereolab -- and to be honest, have been pretty blah about them since Emperor Tomato Ketchup -- but this sounds more like Spoon doing Peanuts to me. For the record: I'm not a Spoon fan.

Snobbery is such a gift. Hold it close to your heart, you precious doe.

Before Stereolab, there was Jazz.
This song and video is great. It's artist. And I'm sure we'll be seeing the same thing done 100 times for the next 100 years.

Wow does this ever sound exactly like Soft Machine. Cool departure for Sir Paul. Who made the video, Window Media Player?

Yeah, I was thinking Peanuts as well - nice relaxing tune though.

The last McCartney songs I really full on LOVED like a proper McCartney song were "Comming Up" and "Take it Away"...but then "Fine Line" suprised the shit out of me at the time...

I always considered George Harrison to be the best post-Beatles Beatle. But this song is really cool. Great video, too. The video shifted at the 3 minute mark, and it's too bad the song didn't change with it instead of repeating, oh well. Props to Paul McCartney for making something relevant and interesting.

Paul's last three albums have had some very interesting songs, usually relegated to b-sides or bonus tracks. See: "Growing Up..." from the Chaos & Creation thing
