New Them Crooked Vultures - "Elephants" (Live At Pukkelpop Festival)

thumbnail icon: New Them Crooked Vultures - "Elephants" (Live At Pukkelpop Festival)

This past weekend the Josh Homme/Dave Grohl/John Paul Jones supergroup Them Crooked Vultures did two festival gigs in Europe, including the "surprise" set which surprised nobody at Belgium's Pukkelpop. We're still waiting on the trio to stop playing coy and just confirm some details around their inevitable album already, but in the interim we'll just keep posting FanTubes from their shows with serviceable audio. This one's of the hard-riffing/tempo-shifting "Elephants," which opened the band's set and is a smart opening song at that, setting the tone for the band's synthesis of its principals' styles. As noted after I saw them at the Metro in Chicago, the fourth bro is longtime Homme-boy Alain Johannes.

Still waiting on official words about a Them Crooked Vultures album, but we pretty much know it's happening.

I like what I see. Homme and Grohl know how to play rock songs. Do you hear much of JPJ's influence? Other than that led zeppelin influenced everything that h & g have ever done. But in these songs any stronger?

No, Belgians aren't deaf. Just have better taste than you I suppose.

I was there & this show was boring ! It's always the same rock'n'roll riffs. Again & again.
Nothing new under the red sun...
Anyway. In the same time, in the other side of the festival, Grizzly Bear was awesome !

This band needs Julian Casablanca's to be it's lead singer! It'd be the only supergroup worth the distinction.

Grizzly Bear is overrated and terrible live. They opened for TV on the Radio a few years back and I took a nap until the TVOTR boys ripped it up.
