New U2 Video - "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight" (Live)

thumbnail icon: New U2 Video - "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight" (Live)

We've already seen photos illustrating U2's monstrous 360º Tour rig, but something that can get David Byrne to brandish some blog snark is probably worth experiencing in moving images. And with sound too, why not. U2's stage spectacular is exhibited here via video of a live take on "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight." And you know what? It looks really impressive! Which is great! Because $40MM better buy you impressive. Theoretically the accompanying screengrab for this post would be an aerial shot of the circular edifice itself, but to me the most remarkable thing about U2 always will be the size of Bono's head. (OK he's easy to tease, but really you should see this thing play out. They really went for it.)

And if you missed it, there's a somewhat maudlin but still sorta cute animated video for this track right here.

Bono is sporting a nice fade. I wonder where he gets his hairs cut.

based on reading the post, i expected to see more than 1-shaky-cam-second-at-a-time of the actual production. oh, and an actual live recording, showing video from them performing the actual song would've been nice, too. this looks like a press kit.

cue all the snarky u2 comments, but i think the 80,000 people in that stadium would drown out the hipsters any day.

It's amazing how despite the economic meltdown in the US, they are still able to sell out multiple nights at gigantic football stadiums. (Or at least they claim to have sold them out...we'll see on 9/12 in Chicago). Are Americans choosing between seeing U2 and feeding their children?

Hey Stereogum, is there any possibility that the plus/minus comments buttons have disappeared? I can't see them on my Mac and I've read through a lot of posts (like this one) with all zeros. Just curious.

Anyone else having to reset their password every time they attempt to log in? Or am I the only one with this problem? Also, it's a damn shame that you are now required to be logged in to score comments. Clearly, no one's bothering anymore.

Stereogum: if it aint broken (it wasn't), don't fix it.

$40MM is a sh*tload to be willing to put up during a recession. That takes balls.

At least it's not a giant lemon right?

This is sort of similar in the way old rich guys buy Lamborghinis and date hot young slutz to feel better about themselves. But Bono's richer than those dudes so this is what happens. Man, mid life crisis is fucked up. Or awesome. depending on who you are I guess

Great stage, great light show, very impressive screen. $40MM very well spent.

I do miss seeing all the big thumbs up and thumbs down numbers on posts---now there's no apparent way to filter the notable comments from the meh ones. I'm sure there's a good reason for the change?

Also, it did make me sign in again to post this, even though it said I was already signed in.

A worthless song? What the hell are you talking about? Music is suppose to make you feel like dancing. Everything is subjective. Get off your high horse. By the way I have seen these guys since the early 80's and they still have the best show ever. Let's see how long all the new acts last with their worthless songs. Give me a break. Stop trying to dis the best band in the World. That right the BEST BAND IN THE WORLD. NO IF ANDS OR BUTS ,THEY ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, what a bunch of many worthless comments. I don't understand itf you hate the band which some of you do obviously, why waste one moment reading the post, watching the video and commenting> I have yet to go to a Celine Dion post and put any energy or time towards one. Not my cup of tea like many other so I just dont waste the time I have on it. It just show why so many people get no where and are never happy. Hate, bashing and putting others down for their own personal likes and opinions. Wow

U2 have been terrible ever since [name of U2 song/album being promoted at the time musical consciousness was formed]! This song is sadly the best song on [current album U2 are promoting]. I can't believe this cost [money cited in article] while [current humanitarian issue poster has no involvement in]! U2 [sucks/blows/are overrated]!
