New Uglysuit Video - "Chicago"
Young psychedelic sextet the Uglysuit construct big sunny pop songs. The good-time feeling's something the Oklahoma City band clearly embraces: Sunflowers cover their eyes in one of their promo photos, another depicts a field of the plants in bloom. "Psychedelic" and "Oklahoma" may evoke the Flaming Lips, but on the Uglysuit's self-titled Touch & Go debut, the guitar atmospherics, piano, keyboard, and layered voices backing front man Israel Hindman are at times more comparable to a happier take on another Ugly band: Isaac Brock's Ugly Casanova. For all the elements, it's a clean sound. The group's reportedly played together since their early teens, which could account for the uncluttered feel. This playful video for album standout "Chicago" -- which is more Phantom Planet "California" than Brock anything, to be fair -- also illustrates some of that friendliness via thrift store shenanigans, cloud watching, and a low-key rooftop show.
Here it is without the keyboardist's hair:

This album is fucking fantastic, I'm not really sure where they get the "psychedelic" from, but, they aren't Lipsy, which is refreshing.
Score = 3
Great band and great video.

That felt good! I may have to spend some dough on this one!

This is my favorite album of the year. It is still in rotation and I got it several months back. It's great from start to finish.
I love the single "Chicago", but I must admit it is my least favorite track on the record. There are many tracks that stand out much more to me, but I guess they couldn't be singles because they are too long. "...And we Became Sunshine", and "Everyone Now has A Smile" are my 2 favorite tracks and they both clock in at over 7 minutes. Both take you on a journey that you never want to end.
