New Vivian Girls Video - "When I'm Gone"
When Brandon first put his ears on "When I'm Gone," Vivian Girls' lead single and runaway standout from their sophomore set Everything Goes Wrong, he heard echoes of Black Tambourine in its "starry, dusky fuzzed-out sounds" and "semi-buried spectral harmonies." The Girls' bittersweet lo-fi pop track has a video to follow suit, the trio performing in a sun-streaked room as their likenesses are superimposed in hazy, softly defined layers suiting the sound, and the sentiment. It's no joy ride, but it's simple and effective.
Everything Goes Wrong is out via In The Red.

Nice looking video...Reckoning, Murmur and Dead Letter are great Fall albums for some reason...

Catchy, jangly pop hooks. I just can't stay mad at you, Vivian Girls.

Jeeze, just listen to that lush lo-fi pop sound. Clearly there are hooks, but buried deep deep underneath the soft fuzz of the guitars. Sweet Gerald. Will I listen to you when you are gone? How could I ever let you leave my heart Vivian Girls. Not only do you dazel me with your hip-random thrift store clothing, but also the use of the so very ironic late 80s southern bangs is ever so charming. It almost makes want to bob unevenly along to the music with you, but I would only sully the steps. I weap once that 2 minutes of juvilation of all things pure and holy in sound is over. Dare I lift my head and continue on knowing that nothing could ever quench my soul like you do?

I bet someone would have given you a +1 if you knew how to spell.

What pop hooks? The melody of this song stays on one note. Anyone can do that, bury it under layers of distortion and some furious chord strumming, and call it "lo-fi pop". I normally wouldn't care about the existence of a band like this, but these girls are unbearably pretentious bitches who don't have the musical talent to back it up. Fuck em.

I can't help but enjoy the fuzz. It'll wear thin, sure, but for now I'll enjoy the melodious trio melting my ears.

this is more a fashion statement than actual music. bleh

Black Tambourine was 10x better than vivian girls could ever hope to be.

ho hum. More mediocrity from Vivian Girls.

Every time I try listening to a whole VG song, I find my self wishing I were listening to a new Aislers Set record instead. If VG intrigue you, but leave you feeling a little meh, check out The Aislers Set's "Terrible Things happen". It's what lo-fi garage pop sounds like when fronted by a woman who understands things like melody and harmonies.
