New Weezer - "I'm Your Daddy" & "The Girl Got Hot" (Live In South Korea)

thumbnail icon: New Weezer - "I'm Your Daddy" & "The Girl Got Hot" (Live In South Korea)

We recently told you Weezer has a seventh album and a million other things on the way. Here are two more: Last week, the band performed two new songs during their set at the Jisan Valley Rock Festival in South Korea. The two tracks -- "I'm Your Daddy" and "The Girl Got Hot" -- are clearly variations on a hormonal theme. Cuomo the sex machine makes like James Brown with tight hamstrings for the guitar-free sing-a-longs. Whoa whoa.

Yes, the folks at YouTube have "She Got Hot" tagged as "The Girl Got Hot," but according to a Weezer tweet, it's the former. And we always trust Twitter.

Fuck Twitter, it actually is called "The Girl Got Hot" (via weezer.com).

It is actually "The Girl Got Hot." It has been confirmed by Karl Koch, the fifth member of Weezer. Also, there is a video from the Jisan festival of an album version of "Can't Stop Partyin," a song debuted on Alone II

Embarrassing songs and song titles. No wonder they performed them in South Korea.

I'm happy that River's in a good place now, but it seems his music's quality is directly inverse to the quality of his emotional state.

This song is terrible, this song is terrible, this song is terrible, this song is terrible.

I just wrote a Weezer chorus.

I don't give three flying fucks about River Cuomo's emotional state.
I thought they were ridiculous making covers of MGMT and Lagy GaGa, but this is absolutely cringeworthy.
They should retire or die.

Carrie Brownstein does not approve: http://www.npr.org/blogs/monitormix/2009/07/weezer_the_ultimate_novelty_ba.html?ft=1&f=15710080

Thanks, I have no opinion of my own so the opinion of this girl will have to do I guess.

What a great (and well-deserved) burn!

Two thumbs up to Carrie Brownstein for that one.

I'm surprised this post wasn't titled, "Rivers Cuomo's dick explodes upon entering South Korea." Good restraint, Rivers.

I stand by the fact that all weezer albums are pronounced as terrible until three or four years later. Pinkerton, for example, is a masterpiece but was named one of the worst albums of 1996. Just wait...in 2020, The Red Album and this new album will be heralded as classics of our generation. Or just made fun of for being by that "sweater band"

So, does Cuomo just use popular riffs ripped from other bands from previous generations, then attach contrived, silly lyrics, just so he can jerk off about being 'prolific'?

Nevermind, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what he does.

Rivers, your happiness is second to writing good music. Know your niche, you're fucking with the order.

brad,
in any context, with any music, the writer's happiness always comes first. River's doesn't give a shit if you like his music, and rightly so.
you with can't write good music if you are writing for anyone else's sake.

Was hoping for Matt Sharp on bass...got Douglas Fargo from Eureka instead.

it sucks when bands that you used to love don't give a shit about music. Rivers is talented but I don't think that he even tries anymore.. he just uses the same stupid formula.

Yeah I don't know...I'm a much bigger fan of the old Weezer when they made music videos that looked like they were made on a home video camera. I did read this pretty cool article today about the "Old" Weezer over at the Indie Pit blog. Check it out http://blog.indiepit.com/2009/07/28/the-shoebox-when-weezer-were-cool/

trying to defend weezer to your friends is very tough when you get shit like this. after pinkerton there have only been glimmers of hope. rivers needs to start drinking/doing drugs/stop meditating/recruit matt and not let any other band member contribute.
