OMG New MBV

Never can tell when these sorts of things will actually materialize, but Kevin Shields told ex-Sassy kingpin and NOU dude Ian Svenonious that My Bloody Valentine's getting back together, has already been shoe-gazing in the studio for the first time since '95, and could release some new material within the year. And, hey, who would lie to Ian Svenonious? (Their discussion airs on Soft Focus this Monday, 11/12, on VBS.tv.) Check out Shields in his own words via Daily Swarm:

We were making a record in the 90s, around when the band broke up in 1995…and I continued with Belinda. We kinda made we made most of an album…It’s going to be this ‘96/‘97 record half-finished record finished, and then a compilation of stuff we did before that in 1993–94, and a little bit of new stuff.

I pretty much know what the one that’s going to come out this year is going to sound like because its already pretty much 3/4’s done already…it sounds like what we sounded like – different but not radically different. People will go, “Yeah, it sounds like My Bloody Valentine.

The article also mentions that the band's started a new site, which is being designed by bassist Debbie Goodge, that the group may go the Internet-only path for the release, and that they may appear Coachella 2008. That's a lot of speculation, so in the meantime, how about checking out a few things we know happened for real....

"Only Shallow"

"Swallow"

"Soon"

Fingers crossed. VBS.tv should interview Jeff Mangum next.

I was going to make a Chinese Democracy joke... but I couldn't think of one. Oh well.

I never really got MBV. I mean, I guess they were a decent band and all, but really, what's the big deal? Kind of overrated in my book.

Just joking, they're fucking great, I just wanted to be the first to post a douchebag comment like that. You know it's coming.

Finally - a reunion worth getting fussed over! Aw who am I kidding, I'm psyched for Swervedriver's reunion too. Creation Records forever!

well, KS was saying the same things only slightly different back in 2004 and 2005, namely that they had new material recorded then, and were going to release a box set including new material. of course that never happened. see, this is why heroin is bad. even if you don't die, you can take up to 16 years to make your follow up album. just kidding, hopefully. but who knows? I sure hope its true, I would be so happy to hear new material, but I can't afford to get my hopes up again, its too depressing when it doesn't materialize...

The heroin comment by benj just reminded me of last night's South Park episode.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...
