Paul Simon Does "Late In The Evening" With The Roots
They performed it on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, so the One-Trick Pony track has something conceptual to its joyful, horn-lined lilt. Even if Fallon's jokes don't always work, his sound people generally do, and it's not surprising the Roots handle the instrumentation tightly and with swing (hello, summer). For his part, Simon seems fairly stoked (and, as per that thumbnail image, he indeed raises the roof). Take a look, move your feet, etc.
Bonus: unearthed footage of Paul with his original writing partner Steve Martin...
Funny.

Fantastic performance, even if we did have to endure Paul having fun with a sketch by Fallon's terrible writers.

Agreed - fun song, Paul's up for it, and the Roots continue to kill it - last five minutes of this show are quickly becoming reason number one to watch, or at least, you know, DVR :)
Score = 1
Fun performance, but the Roots sound is so obscured these days due to their 10+ man lineup. Gimme some old, raw organic live stuff w/ Leonard Hubard, Scratch, Knuckles...

Look forward to the embed of this! Silly NBC and their racist foreign policy.

This was a great performance. The Roots are easily the best, tightest, most amazing band in Late Night.

Yes, US only. Too bad. Paul Simon always cracks me up. He's funny.

why are you trying to cut down fallon? honestly, i think he does an amazing job. yeah. i said amazing. maybe he had a slow start or something but i saw last night's episode (6/5) and it was so great. totally different than conan, which might be why people aren't giving it a chance....but anyway. i just wanted to say that you are doing him a disservice. his show's hilarious.

i guess the common thing to do is to bash newcomers. he's no conan but then again conan was no conan when he first started. what i do like about fallon is that he's young and that he seem's genuinely nervous. there are too many out there who are (or rather pretend to be) jaded and overconfident. i never liked sat nite live but i always thought jimmy was funny when he came as conan's guest. once he get's the feel of his show, i think he'll do ok. and by the way i thought the sketch was amusing and i'd bet anything steve martin wrote it.
