Ray LaMontagne Brings "Trouble" To A Rocky SNL

thumbnail icon: Ray LaMontagne Brings "Trouble" To A Rocky SNL

SNL continued to surprise me with its music picks by inviting backwoods troubadour Ray LaMontagne to join Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson at Studio 8H over the weekend. Ray would have been a perfect fit during the show's earliest years (think Joe Cocker, Levon Helm, Van Morrison), whereas booking the raspy singer/songwriter in 2009 seems somewhat inspired. Not inspired enough to justify watching the entire broadcast live, but I did anyway. There was one sketch I laughed at ("Sports Show") and an Update bit with Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel that didn't hold my attention. I apparently spent those minutes thinking of puns for this post title instead. You can watch the aforementioned comedy sketches at Videogum. Ray's "You Are The Best Thing" and older hit "Trouble" (you were expecting "Meg White"?) are after the jump.

"You Are The Best Thing"

"Trouble"

This Saturday: Tracy Morgan and Kelly Clarkson.

Ray looked very VERY uncomfortable after each performance and when he was standing next to the Rock he looked like he wanted to get the fuck out of there

omg. This guy is sooooooooooo perfect for the spoiled baby boomers who have run this country into the ground. aw, poor bearded guy! You sound so old. Too bad you don't sound original or anything that might resemble it! Can we please get over folks that sound like boring 70's bands?! I don't know. Hell, maybe when we are all in Bushvilles we can come to grips with all the bullshit that is fed to us. no? ok. I am going to go get my 2x4's and blast some fucking ZU.

also jamz, I love the fact that he looked "VERY uncomfortable" standing next to the big black man. oh the old days. When white boys were boring and they could STILL feel like little men next to um, ......hmmmm.

He should just sing and not play his guitar. He was just strumming it but I could barely hear it in the mix. Isn't the rock Hawaiian?
