Saturday Night Live Returns With Rock Of Love Parody, Armisen As Obama

Back from the writers' strike with a backlog of Daniel Plainview and Hillary Clinton jokes, Saturday Night Live returned this weekend brandishing Tina Fey, a Steve Martin cameo, and huge prosthetic Obama ears. Obviously musical guest Carrie Underwood wasn't going to provide sufficient excuse for us to post about it. For that, we turn to Jason Sudekis's decent turn as Bret Michaels with a side of Amy Poehler's one-legged flatulence:

SNL's had bigger problems to face during their hiatus than just that "who will write our jokes" thing. Namely: Who will play Barack Obama? Reports of late had Lorne Michaels auditioning 30 Rock writer Donald Glover and Mad TV's Jordan Peele and comedian Jordan Carlos but settled on resident chameleon Fred Armisen. He's got the scowl down, at least.

And while we're over here and in the spirit of the Oscars, here's another thing that happened: There Will Be Milkshakes For Old Men.

Nice impressions and you get a pass for obvious reason but overall: no more "I drink your milkshake" appropriation, please. It was a nice moment when it happened but we don't want to start hating it (or hating milkshakes, because they are delicious).

Really, you thought the Rock of Love skit was funny? I found it nauseating. And seriously, has Rock of Love penetrated the pop culture landscape enough that it deserves being skewered by SNL?

On the other hand, it was way, WAY funnier than "What's that Bitch Talking About?" Whoever wrote that skit should never be allowed near a typewriter again.

Rock of Love was created TO BE PARODIED!!! The same pretention that i rail against here permeates all facets of media. Get the fuck over yourself, douche. You are far less taLENTED AND ORIGINAL THAN ANYONE ASSOCIATED WITH THAT SHOW OR YOU WOULDN'T BE POSTING BLOGETTES ON THIS SITE. Whoops, caps lock...

The only semi-funny one was the last clip, and that's only because the Day-Lewis impression was great. The rest was typical SNL lameness. I was hoping they'd forget to tell Lorne Michaels the writers' strike was over, but no such luck.

Good call Shockadow. Crispy is an idiot. High drop outs should not watch SNL....it was, is, and will always be aimed at the intelligent audience.

the milkshake sketch was god awful. the only reason that sketch existed is because it was an excuse for someone to do a daniel day lewis impression and repeat a played out catchphrase. and, big shocker, they bring on an anton chigurh impression. how cutting edge

Today's SNL could be the whitest show on American television since "The Partridge Family". Or a Judd Apatow flick.

By nary a token interest in diversifying its staff, SNL is actually denying itself a badly-needed boost in ratings and relevance. Lorne Michaels is a fucking tool.

They totally failed on that Rock Of Love sketch. The girls did great, but the Brett didn't say "awesome" even once! Do you realize how many times Brett Michaels says "Awesome" in that show??? Once every damn sentence. You can't do a parody of that show without "awesome"

Failed.

Whatshisname's Daniel Day-Lewis impression was perfect and was the only thing holding the skit together. Fred Armisen is a cool guy and he does good impressions, but he just doesn't have the comedic appeal that Darrell Hammond had with his similarly spot-on impressions.

Oh, Shockadow... three exclamation points, all caps, the winking nod to all caps. Somebody's been spending way too much time in the Music section of Digg.

Good Lord. I found this site to check out the Rock Of Love 2 parody I heard about. Five minutes of my time gone forever! SNL was funny 15 years ago, but that was FIFTEEN year ago!! It is now just an annoyance. My kids and I could write funnier stuff. That is the truth!
