Scott Walker - 30 Century Man

Last year's freaky good Scott Walker record The Drift was his first in over a decade, and it isn't for the faint of heart. The man's had quite the career, morphing from your mom's teenage crush as part of the Walker Brothers into an uncompromising avant artist -- and he's got some fancy fans. The forthcoming documentary, tracing his progression from '60s pop star to reclusive genius, will premiere in London on 4/27 (with a possible advance peek at SXSW). Looks amazing. Among the interviewees: David Bowie, Jarvis Cocker, Damon Albarn, Brian Eno, Johnny Marr, Sting, Alison Goldfrapp, Richard Hawley, a Cocteau Twin, and some Radioheads. Here's the film's trailer, in which you'll see a flash of Bowie and a flash of Scott punching a slab of frozen meat. That's what geniuses do.

Hopefully, Damon will let us know wether the Walker Brothers were a band or not.

I highly doubt Stereogum ( or anyone of its ghost writers) can even name one Scott Walker song. But I guess someone told you he was cool so.....

willie: So not true! I'm a huge fan of The Drift. And we told Insound that it was one of the top 10 records that we (unfortunately) didn't get to blog in '06:

I just make sure not to listen to "Jesse" when I'm alone at night. Those Friday the 13th styled whispers give me the creeps.

The movie is fantastic, I saw it when it premiered in London last October, and I am looking forward to the showing at the Glasgow Film Festival in February! Of course the Walker Brothers were a band! The arrived in the UK from California in Feb 65 and Scott had the good sense and taste to stay here... aren't we lucky! Gale Harold is associate producer of the movie. anyone who wants a list of Scott Walker songs,,,,,,call me LOL

PS.. Scott doesn't punch the slab of pork, he left that to his percussionist Alasdair Malloy.
