Sigur Rós & Björk Join In Serving Iceland Some "Gobbledigook"

thumbnail icon: Sigur Rós & Björk Join In Serving Iceland Some "Gobbledigook"

Saturday in Reykjavik saw a convergence of four of the world's greatest things -- Sigur Rós, Björk, National Geographic, and free -- for a Náttúra concert to raise awareness about the ill effects of aluminum smelting on Icelandic topography. If you watched the live webcast you already know this, but if not: you are a chump for not booking a flight out to Iceland for this show, if only for these four minutes when the Umlaut and the Acute accented ones joined forces (with Ólöf Arnalds) for a rousing "Gobbledigook."

Still loving seeing Jonsi so smiley. Also, there's a lesson in there to a certain other band promoting a new album: wear your styled-up black jackets every time you play if you want, but stop with the backing tracks. How bout getting some backing musicians? Or rearranging your songs for four people? Or getting guest work from Björk? It's like, duh, band I'm talking about-play.

A flight to iceland to see a concert... how bout the enviroment? It's greener to see it on Stereogum!

i wholeheartedly endorse your decision to see it on stereogum, and i agree that is the greener choice. however a flight to iceland wouldn't contribute to the ill effects of aluminum smelting on iceland's natural landscape, so you could have flown out there and still been consistent with the concert's goal of support and awareness. also everybody's beautiful in iceland, if you're looking for more reasons flying there is a good idea.

Nothing is green about this. Their awesomeness melts trees and rocks. Only the icelanders are immune to this mystical mojo.

I wasn't a big fan of Gobbledigook when I first heard it and I still tend to skip it when I'm listening to the album, but I really love it as a live song. Wish I had been there!

It was an amazing concert - blazing sunshine and 30,000 happy people.

A vast number of trees were planted at the weekend to offset the carbon emissions given off by any extra flights/transport/power use resulting from the concert.

Over 1000 birch trees were used, as 'birch' in Icelandic is 'bjork', so they were honouring the lady herself and making sure the concert was as green as possible.

Amrit is also spot on about the aluminium smelters. Pure evil.

Bjork is hot and Jonsi seems really tall.

Animal from Muppet Babies is so spot on.
