Silversun Pickups Get Nostalgic For MTV Unplugged

thumbnail icon: Silversun Pickups Get Nostalgic For MTV Unplugged

The Los Angeles quartet showcased a number of Swoon songs when they stopped by the audience-free Spinner studio a few weeks ago. This time, complete with a string section, they're sitting down in front of a few fans sans major amplification. MTV Unplugged feels like a remnant of the old MTV days, back when they made taste, etc. In that vein, the Pickups featured a few past Carnavas tracks, including "Well Thought Out Twinkles" and "Lazy Eye." As you can tell by that screengrab, they had a good time doing it.

"Well Thought Out Twinkles"

"Lazy Eye"

"Panic Switch"

You can see "Catch And Release," "Kissing Families," and "Growing Old is Getting Old" at mtv.com.

I didn't think I would like this but I did. Panic Switch translated surprisingly well to acoustic guitars.

I'm glad that this band is getting recognition. They're like an aggregator of pop music memes from the past 20 years, and all stuff that I like.

god, i hate this band.
the voice, the sound, the pretentiousness, the name.
they give l.a. music a bad name,
really.
theyre like one of the only bands from l.a. getting attention,
and its embarassing especially since theres actually good stuff out here.
i dont know whats worse:
that this band's actually getting paid to pump out this crap,
or that people actually say stuff like:
"I'm glad that this band is getting recognition. They're like an aggregator of pop music memes from the past 20 years, and all stuff that I like."
ugh.
i rather deal w/some screaming from a shitty noise band @ the smell than this.
god, i hate this band.

god, i hate this post.
the text, the punctuation, the pretentiousness, the poster.
it gives stereogum a bad name,
really.
its like one of the only posts from this page not reading,
and its embarassing that i read it at all especially since theres actually good stuff out here.
i dont know whats worse:
that this post's actually getting attention,
or that people actually say stuff like:
"god, i hate this band."
ugh.
i rather deal w/some more michael jackson publicity than this.
god, i hate this post.

last year silversun pickups also did an "unplugged" gig here in honolulu for the "Roadrunner Music Hall" and Star FM (go to the Roadrunner Music Hall website to see it http://thehall.tv/past.asp). great hearing the songs "acoustic" (after hearing their full electric gig at coachella 2007)....and even got to meet the band afterwards! they will return to honolulu in september....cant wait! aloha!
