Stereogum Does CMJ: Apples In Stereo @ Pianos
Thank you to everyone who made it to the Yep Roc Records showcase we sponsored Thursday. We were happy to see a big turnout from the start of American Princes' 2PM set. By 5, Pianos was packed with power pop fans and empty cans of Old Chubb. E6 heroes Apples In Stereo(gum) treated us to material from the forthcoming New Magnetic Wonder (out 2/6 on Elijah Wood's Simian Records, distributed via Yep Roc Records and Redeye). This exuberant kick-off number is also the first cut off the album (their first in five years -- too long!) and ... it's a free ringtone. We just forget who you're supposed to text to get it. (We'll find out for ya later.) Robert invented a new musical scale, dubbed the "Non-Pythagorean," for this album. That's dedication. We'll have more goodies from the Yep Roc party soon (Heavy Trash and Cities rocked too). But enjoy this vid in the meantime, and keep an eye out for the uncooperative cowbell.
Check out the winner(s) of the Apples In Stereo's "create our new logo" contest here. Which one's your fave?

Caught the Apples' acoustic set for Gothamist. The new songs sound great. Wish I'd caught the Pianos show.

This show was so packed that evfveryone "got some" this afternoon! Great set. Robert Apple is the most unlikely / likely rock star.

I have a bunch of pics of American Princes set up on my Flickr. Mind you, I had to use ye olde camera phone because the effing batteries on my other camera died.
Also, I'd like to take this moment to thank you guys for the good times. You really worked your asses off to make CMJ this year a fun place to be. While I, not unlike many others, have expressed my reservations about CMJ as a viable and important entity, this year was by far the most fun I've had at CMJ in a very long time.
Hey did you make it to K-Fed or not?
