Stereogum Does CMJ: Dan Deacon Parts The Party At Bowery Ballroom

At last night's Windish Showcase Dan Deacon got our sweaty selves hyped with group shouts of "Ethan Hawke!" and "Gattaca!" then screwed our minds with his signature strobes, green skull, and iPod-taped-to-a-banana (this has made Dan a person of interest to airport security ... really). So what better way to end the blog day -- before we guzzle another pot of coffee and head out to more, more, more CMJ -- than with his line-dancing version of "Trippy Green Skull"? Right, there is no better way. Try to spot yourself in the crowd. (Nice moves, girl in the blue shirt.)

One thing to note: That isn't Diplo ... Dan's using the guy as an example of how hard he wants y'all to party. Speaking of which, as we mentioned earlier, pre-show we invited Andrew W.K. to go head to trippy green skull with the Baltimore man himself: Party tip video on the way! Another note: We aren't this handy with video cameras. The footage was shot by ace Stereogum videographer Matt Neatock. More of his fancy CMJ-related vid stuff's on the way, too. OK, if you're in NYC, time to get outside and dance.

This was not the best Dan Deacon show I've been to, but I thought it was brilliant to put the photogs onstage so the party people could dance. Amazing video you got!

This is just ridiculous. Like the size of Cisco Adler's balls. It's like a retard convention in there. (*sorry to offend anyone with my casual use of the word "retard". But I have 2 disabled family members so I'm allowed.)

There is a special place in hell for people who tape ipods to bananas, flaunt green skulls, and promote call and response involving Ethan Hawke. Seriously. The only way he could be more gimmicky is to cram himself into a giant cracker jack box and goad people into opening it.

Every needs to take their lithium. Lots of haters today.

I'm so angry that someone puts on a fun live show that people like to dance at. grrrr...why can everyone not brood over what bothers us about other people's idea of a good time. They're all so retarded!! but its ok i can say that, i own all the dvds of Life Goes On. My sister is engaged to a black guy so i can use the n-word whenever i want. Dan Deacon? nigga please.

I truly don't get this whole deal. Who the f wants to go to a show that dissolves into a third grade PE class? I am pretty tolerant of music (or whatever this is) that I may not "get" or like. Whatever does it for people, right? Just becauase I don't like it, doesn't mean it is bad. But this... This looks like the biggest collection of hipster losers acting like total morons I have ever seen. Looking forward to next month when this fad is over...

Huh?

for being "tolerant" you certainly have no patience or tolerance for Dan Deacon or his fans.

Can someone explain why Dan Deacon is so revered by hipsters? He's like the Pied Piper of confused youth.

That was so terrible, I think it melted my brain. It is good that Corky Thatcher is back in the public eye though. Good for him.

It's funny because everyone who is "so into it" in this clip will be "so over it" next month. Let's find some real music with real passion people...then maybe, just maybe we can all be "into it" for a long time, who knows maybe even create some legends of our own...

dan is actually a really nice guy, you can tell this crowd is just people who heard he was cool or something, like not sure if they should dance and just timid in general. if you had been to some of the early shows here in baltimore you might have experienced the energy and liberty of what dan is doing in a better way,

I don't know what the big thing about Dan Deacon either. It just looks like people come to hang out at his shows and be cool. does he play an instrument? can someone tell me why he's so blogged about?

all i see him doing is singing really bad over tracks and fucking with some machines. how does that make him cool?

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun
