Sufjan Stevens' The BQE Trailer, Release Info

thubmnail icon: Sufjan Stevens' The BQE Trailer, Release Info

After announcing the release of Run Rabbit Run remix album and an ATP NY appearance, we have more news from camp Stevens, though it's still not the news you likely wanted: We enjoyedThe BQE a couple years back during its three-night run at BAM and now we can watch his orchestral homage to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway endlessly at home. The package includes the soundtrack on CD, a DVD of the film footage, and a 40-page booklet with liner notes, photographs, and a "stereoscopic 3-D Viewmaster® reel." There'll also be a limited-edition double-vinyl edition on 180-gram vinyl with a 32-page booklet. This one also comes with "a 40-page BQE-themed Hooper Heroes comic book." What, no free hula hoop? If you haven't seen The BQE, or need a refresher, take a look at the (very brief) trailer.

The BQE is out 10/20 via Asthmatic Kitty. On 10/24, 92YTribeca is hosting a screening of the DVD. Stevens will be there to introduce it. To tie things together, the Osso Quartet will also be present to perform Run Rabbit Run selections. Tickets are on-sale 7/23 via 92YTribeca.

I still want a new album, but this will definitely tide me over. I never got a chance to see The BQE, so technically this is new material for me.

Is being the Wes Anderson of indie music necessarily a good thing?

Isn't Wes Anderson the Wes Anderson of indie music?

I hope the climax of this recent influx of Sufjan material is the announcement of a new album. I'm going to keep telling myself that is what is going to happen, at least I'll feel better that way.

I was lucky enough to be in the audience for the final BQE performance 2 years ago, and I can't freakin' wait to see/hear it again. It was fantastic.

How is composing a piece of music and creating/releasing a film "screwing around"?
