Sunny Day Real Estate Share Diary With Fallon

Last night the reunited emo legends gave Jimmy Fallon "Seven," the first track from their classic 1994 full-length debut Diary. There was more anticipatory energy in the air at that secret show at Hell's Kitchen in Tacoma a couple weeks ago, but as far as Late Night outings go, the guys do bring it. Not surprising: Between Jeremy Enigk's solo work and the Foo Fighters, they're old pros even with fifteen years of SDRE rust. That, and it's not the first time they brought "Seven" to national TV. Contrast/compare, and take a pass at these shots by Mehan Jayasuria from Sunny Day's Sunday-night headliner at Terminal 5.

Here they are on Jon Stewart around the time of the original release:

And on 120 Minutes a few days later:

Diary and LP2 were just reissued by Sub Pop. Both were remastered and come with a couple bonus tracks. The remastered "Seven":

I am an old, old lady -- too old to have stayed up last night to watch Fallon, too employed to watch this clip at work -- but I am so flippin' excited about seeing them tonight at the 9:30 club...

Remember that "Stop Moshing" campaign the band was doing back in the 90s? Yeah, that was pretty lame... I continue moshing, even today, here at work. Sometimes I mosh alone, sometimes I mosh with other moshers. Moshing is a human right and no icon can stop me. oh..here i start up again (i spontaneously mosh when i get angry)!

Moshing is rare these days. It would be hilariously ironic if the moshing trend started up again at SDRE shows.

Were they really around long enough back then to have a "stop moshing" campaign? Not being snarky, I just don't remember that...

great on fallon! the previously-mentioned cardboardness of fallon in response to his musical guests was not there - he was totally psyched.

wish i was going to the 930 club.

They sounded better in Denver last week. There's something about these late night shows where they can't translate a loud band to television. Good set list, great performance, and the crowd was the most immobile, respectful mass of people I've ever been a part of. Granted, it was Monday night, but man, people just don't move anymore.

Wasn't the "No Moshing" schtick Fugazi?

Interesting; William's drumming seems more intense in the Fallon video. Maybe a little flashier (in a good way) but still awesome. Can't wait to see 'em.
