SXSW: Talkin' To Randoms On Red River And A Chicken

We're rolling with a camera crew at this year's fest, capturing our favorite performances, interviewing bands, and getting advice from festival goers on successfully navigating South By Southwest 2008. Yaris/Free Yr Radio kindly lent us wheels to get around. Here Stereogum's Amrit Singh talks to folks about useless wristbands, death metal cuisine, and Vampire Weekend. Check the cameo from freestyle wordsmith Kosha Dillz, who wants to know how SXSW is like a matzoh ball. (Congrats KD, you win a tag.)

This is cool, but you guys reallllly need to export it at a lower bitrate. I'm on a really, really fast dsl connection and it's taking forever to load.

ok, if anyone's still reading this thread, we did some work with our open-source video encoder (ffmpeg) to get a fair balance of quality and file size. videos should be about 1/3 as large from now on...there's still no equivalent of LAME's -aps.

Band To Watch: Fredrik

Earlier this year we shined a light Swedish pop outfit the LK and their electro lovely, wintry gem "Stop Being Perfect." Had we known the band had a side project sooner, we probably would have written sooner. Instead, we came...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...

Horse Feathers - "Father"

Portland songwriter Justin Ringle's evocative vocal twang and sharp lyricism are at the center of Horse Feathers' bedroom Americana. The band's second album House With No Home, which follows 2006's Words Are Dead, finds Ringle's vision fleshed out by multi-instrumentalist/composer...
