75% Reunited Soundgarden + Tad Doyle = TADGarden

thubmnail icon: 75% Reunited Soundgarden + Tad Doyle = TADGarden

Which makes sense since the man that's missing is the one at 25% his former glory (generous!). This went down last night at the Seattle stop of Tom Morello's Justice Tour, which in the midst of evoking anger and justice for the price of a concert ticket, last night featuring Mudhoney's Mark Arm, Steve Earle, MC5's Wayne Kramer, and of course, this post's title. Tickets were only $15, which Tom reminds the crowd just after he was joined by TAD's Tad Doyle and OG Soundgarden crew Ben Shepherd, Matt Cameron, and a sweetly shorn Kim Thayil on "Nothing To Say," "Spoonman," and "Hunted Down." Obviously Tad didn't try to replicate Cornell's god-like vocals, instead plowing through the part where the words would be with shredded screeches and singed screams. And you know, taking that sort of sledgehammer to the tune and mutilating/mutating it vocally seems poetic in light of Cornell's sad metamorphosis. Watching how shitkickingly, precisely sludgy the band still sounds will make you sigh a little louder about the prospects for a vital reunion, but enough of that: Call it TADGarden, or TADioslavegarden, or whatever, but here is 3/4 of Soundgarden with Tom Morello and Tad Doyle making you wish you were at the Crocodile Cafe last night:

"Hunted Down"

"Nothing To Say"

"Spoonman"

"It's like I won some sort of contest or something." Ha. That pic is by Laura Musselman for Seattle Weekly, who have another 12 to check. Who's in the mood for salad?

Bonus:

"Kick Out The Jams" with Wayne Kramer & Mark Arm

omg! Kim Thayil still rules. Funny but brilliant they should choose to do this the day Cornell's album hits stores.

this obviously was the 'hit' they played last night, and the one with Morello, but the versions of classic SG songs "Hunted Down" and "Nothing to Say" (w/o Morello) sounded much better. other artists that performed not mentioned above include The Blue Scholars and Street Sweeper (Morello + Boots Riley of The Coup). The new Crocodile Cafe is back!

I had no idea, until now, that Cornell was the integral piece to the Soundgarden puzzle. That is now obvious.

This can't possibly be as good as "Scream."

Whenever a Soundgarden reunion's been brought up in his interviews lately, Chris keeps saying that they broke up on good terms and he'd rather not reunite so as to not to tarnish their legacy.

But if a reunion is going to happen, this is probably the best place to start. The other three are doing it for a good cause, they seem to still have what it takes...so maybe Chris will re-think things. I mean, he could still go off in his new direction for the solo stuff, but it'd cool if he could go back to Soundgarden once in a while just for the hell of it.

Kim Thayil was most definitely NOT "sweetly shorn." Aside from the beard and ponytail being much grayer than they once were, he looked exactly the same.

And yes, in person, the two "Screaming Life" songs sounded MUCH better in Tad's hands than "Spoonman" did. I'm not sure Tad had ever heard "Spoonman" before!

Band sounds pretty awesome... I wish they would keep playing together with a new singer ...not TAD really ...but not a Cornell clone either ... Kim has such a cool sound

I think there is no way to Soundgarden reunion: Matt is a Pearl Jam member.

AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL! Embarrassment to Soundgarden's legacy!
Where was Eddie for such an allegedly important musical event for Seattle why wasn't he there? Probably couldn't bare to witness this.

Fantastic! Fantastic! Fantastic! Best group ever, even the presence of this "suposed" singer didn't blur the quality of the music behind. Get a real singer (I might suggest Scott Weiland) and you can still make me believe that the present music decadence is not everlasting... WE NEED GOOD ROCK MUSIC!!!!
