Ted Leo Live On Human Giant

Our friends Aziz, Paul, and Rob have had a funny run so far on their MTV show Human Giant, though the troupe's absurdist shorts presumably haven't lived up to Viacom brass's lofty expectations. (Let's face it, it's no Road Rules 2007.) To save the show, the trio's taken over MTV and MTV2 for 24 hours (noon today 'til noon tomorrow), charged with amassing 1,000,000 hits to humangiant.mtv.com before marathon end, and calling a shit ton of comedians and musicians to help fill the time.

A couple of hours ago they had Ted Leo solo in the studio, who expertly (and melodically) improvised while his guitar dropped out during "Me And Mia." Watch it here, and don't mind that they mislabeled the tune "A Bottle Of Buckie" (blame the interns).

Earlier this morning they had Mastodon rocking "Sleeping Giant" (watch here), and later they promise Albert Hammond, Jr., Tegan & Sara, and most awesomely, the National (not in that order). Left click and save.

Human Giant's first couple of episodes struggled.

Everything since has been comic gold.

I'm a big fan of the show, and really wish I wasn't at work so I could watch this thing. Especially once the National hit the airwaves.

I don't think the show is hilarious, but it's pretty funny and much better than most of the stuff on tv. I hope it survives.

I can't wait for Tegan and Sara! Ted Leo was awesome.

The National just played and fucking TWO-IN-THE-MORNING. Why are they doing this? Times Sq. is a ghost town now. I mean its cool for MTV to allow something "different" for a change, but I dunno, sketch comedy - LIVE?!

btw - The National are totally overrated.

it's a very funny show but the 24 hr. thing didn't really suit it well. there will be a 2nd season though so that's awesome

I can't believe out of all the skit shows on mtv that human giant sucks the most. I'll say it's Acceptable.tv first then even Nick Cannon's Short Circuitz is funnier than Human giant. acceptable.tv has five skits usually and 3 of them usually suck but the other 2 are awesome. Short Circuitz suprized me. That skit "so you have to work with white people" is a a classic. Human Giant is underachieving. it seems like they are smiling way way too much and projecting the punchline sortof. All these skit shows are basically a kind of quasi viral video show as the shows can be cut up and placed on youtube as individual skits so it's no wonder so many companies are doing them. I say just make small skits like Will Ferrell's landlord and release tehm once a month. Make sure they are funny before you release it. Human giant's problem is that it has to be funny or it's canceled. Even lonely Island's guys stuff from 3 years ago is funnier than HG. Sad.

Human Giant is awesome. Great, fun, smart stuff. Anyone who says otherwise is jaded.

Really don't get why people don't find human giant funny. Illusionators? Hilarious. Rob Riggle coming on as the security guard was a highlight. His mugging at the camera was classic. There was some talk of MTV letting them put on old MTV shows in the wee hours, but I never caught that...did it ever happen? I'm guessing not.

Irving: that bush skit was the only bad thing on short circuitz while almost everything on Human giant is tepid. Seriously, Human Giant is not funny. It's like the Dane Cook of sketch comedy.

The marathon sucked! A bunch of middle age dudes jacking off...nothing prepared. Nothing unusual...just acting retarded. Do they know anyone that's not white or male beyond Aziz? Really, question the premise. Honestly!! David Cross and Bob Odenkirk are now proven geniuses. It was sad that Bob Odenkirk doesn't have his own show..and had to be a guest on such a lame show.

I've gotta tell you - Ted keeps it together amazingly well. It almost seemed like it was staged - he is one witty mofo...
