The Antlers Are Good, Have Some Live Video You Should Watch
Hospice is the powerful little Frenchkiss-debut LP from ascendant Brooklyn outfit the Antlers. I last saw them on a stacked bill at Bowery Ballroom some weeks ago, opening for fellow upstarts Cymbals Eat Guitars and White Rabbits; a tough show from which to pick favorites, although their early set was the one I left thinking about. This 20-minute video NPR captured from the band's show at the Black Cat in D.C. is a good place to start, even though the live show is still some steps from capturing the album's full majesty, which spins homespun intimacy into more expansive and cathartic moments. The set opens with "Two" and "Bear," a couple of the affecting album's showcase tracks, one of which you can take with you:
The Antlers - "Two" (MP3)
Frenchkiss is releasing a remastered version of Hospice digitally on 6/23, with physical release to follow 8/18. Worth checking out. Stream the whole thing for the next week at Spinner.

Best album of the year. Fucking love this band. Their live show is far from perfect, but theyve gotten better each time.

Absolutely stunning album.
It should be noted that Hospice isn't their debut album, though.

I love that people are catching on to this album. Hospice is amazingly deep and beautiful. I think a lot of people will be turned off by how dark it is, and how abruptly honest the lyrics are in dealing with love and the death of a loved one, but I think a lot of other people will find this refreshing, and will enjoy the challenge. Regardless, everyone has to hear this album.

not bad... nice even... but theres about a trillion bands out there just like this...

Beautiful album, "“I'm bound to your bedside, your eulogy singer.” gets me every time. I can't believed I missed their SF show.

Hospice is so far my favorite album of 09 and they were excellent when I saw them in Denton. And even better on this NPR video.
