The Decemberists Bring "The Wanting Comes In Waves/Repaid" To Leno

thumbnail icon: The Decemberists Bring "The Wanting Comes In Waves/Repaid" To Leno

Like they did at The Colbert Report, the Decemberists brought Shara Worden and their mythical prog jam "The Wanting Comes In Waves/Repaid" to Leno last night (Shara plays the "jealous forest queen" obvs). The difference between the two shows being Colbert's featured a somewhat amusing interview with the band while Leno's featured none. (As in none of the Decemberists, and none amusing interviews of anyone else either because it is Jay Leno.) As at Dark Was The Night live, My Brightest Diamond's bit was a show-stealer, dance moves aside. Watch:

Yes, that is the other indie Diamond (i.e. Lavender) up there, too. The Hazards Of Love is out via Capitol.

How did this band get so goddamn boring? I mean, Castaways and Cutout and Her Majesty are such ridiculously great albums. This one is a complete boring piece of shit - it sounds like a band who has nothing left to say trying to be important again with an overdone concept album.

Queen without confidence to pull it off.

Also, MBD is overrated. I'm going to go listen to Castaways and Cutouts and cry.

I wouldn't be quite as harsh, but i agree there is a dramatic dropoff in quality between Castaways and Cutouts / Her Majesty and the band's last two albums. Picaresque was pretty good too, though not as good as those first two. And the Tain is awesome. But their trend towards more proggy stuff has kind of lost me and doesn't seem to be anywhere near what they're capable of. But a lot of people like it and the band seems happy, so more power to them. I'm going to go listen to Castaways and Cutouts and be happy that such a great album exists.

HOW DARE YOU SAY MBD IS OVERRATED! She is so talented. You clearly have no music taste.

Man Shara Worden is short. But yeah, she definitely stole the show. Awesome.

I don't understand why they wont play the ONLY single from Hazards of Love.. that being the Rake's Song.

Devin

I think child murdering might be a bit heavy for Leno.

Man, I've been a fan of the decemberists for a long time, and I fuckin' love this album.
It's an album that I have to listen to front to back... but I love it.

Not to mention that Shara Worden is friggin' spectacular...

The Hazards of Love is something that has seemed inevitable since the Tain (which seems to be forgotten more often than not)

Not to mention, Chris Walla who usually produces their stuff was unavailable for this album...

My favorite song on the album, I only wish they had the time to play the whole thing. Oh well.

And Shara is indeed fantastic - but did she cut her own hair?

That sounded like the Decemberists to me, but that's what happens when you pack a 12 minute song into 3.5 minutes.

Its the price we pay for 'progress'
