The Four Greatest Performances Of The 2008 Grammys

Maybe "great" is too strong a word. And five is too high a number for a list like this. If you missed the ceremony, we don't blame you (no Wire spoilers, please), but we can't condone spending more than twenty minutes catching up. First up, a reunited Time show us what a Prince remix of "Umbrella" would sound like.

Hey Jimmy Jam, is that the same keytar featured in THE GREATEST GRAMMY PERFORMANCE OF ALL TIME?

So far so good. Then Cuba Gooding, Jr. shows up.

That does not generally bode well for an entertaining evening, but in this case it means things can only get better, as keytar-wielding Mr. Jones would say. After a year supporting Back To Black on the road, you'd think Amy Winehouse would know what do to with her arms. At least she got to show off her new chompers, and give a shoutout to her incarcerated husband. Here's "You Know I'm No Good" and "Rehab."

Kanye and Daft Punk's "Stronger" was more fun, even if no, we're not honored you would show up to this fake shit, Kanye. You love them award shows. Puh-lease.

Beyonce gives it up to the great ladies of Grammys past, then Tina Turner takes the stage and performs a song we're actually excited to hear for a change.

If you're dying to watch a clown tribute to "A Day In The Life" or the iPod lady do her counting song, you know where to find 'em (hint: it's where Foo Fighters found their violinist), but don't say we didn't warn you.

The Grammys should be called the scammys. How did that no talant Any Winehouse even get nominated? she can't sing, she can't dance, she has no rythem. those tattos are the ugiest tat's I have ever seen on a woman. I have heard better singers at my local sushi place on friday night. That had to be paid for or somebody got paid off. Best album? The album sucks. I'm not sure if she's even a woman she looks like she could be a guy. That wouldnt bother me if she could even sing a little.

For some reason Amy Winehouse reminded me of this scene from Talladega Nights:

As my friend pointed out, Tina Turner's performance screamed "I'm glad Ike's dead."

Last night was the best night of tv watching in a long, long time.

That's because I watched Princess Mononoke.

Hells yeah, Hayao Miyazaki!

How about THIS performance by Dave Grohl? If you think you hear him say, make sure you smoke it (cocaine), you heard him just right..

"Music Sounds Better With You" = Stardust, not Daft Punk, Ian Curtis Michael Jackson, Jr LLC. Nice try though.

The show overall sucked, why did some people get to preform twice, like I even wanted to see them the first time. Also someone needs to give West a ego check.

I dont know how anyone who has listened to AMy Winehouse's cd can say she lacks talent, she is hugly talented and writes her own songs. Her performance wasnt her best, I think large audiences still unnerve her a bit and she reminds me of a classic example of a artist used to playing an instrument (she plays guitar for those who dont know) and now without isnt sure what to do with herself.

"Someone needs to give West an ego check."

No offense, but you're only just realizing this now? I enjoyed his performance, but mostly because of Daft Punk.

Tina Turner is two years away from 70. I'd say she looks pretty amazing.

Morris Day & The Time were awesome....but then Rihanna had to come in and ruin it. Man, she is fucking terrible. Is her time up yet???

Seeing Daft Punk up there with Kanye just reminds me of when Puff Daddy (as he was at the time) brought Jimmy Page to play guitar with him on SNL. Sure, it's great to see the acknowledgement of the source material in such a public forum, but it still seems pretty cheap (or expensive, as the real truth must be).

"Stronger" isn't quite the abomination that whatever Diddy did with "Kashmir" was (which, in turn, was not quite as bad as what he did with "I'll Be Watching You"), but then again, I still haven't gotten over the amount of wrongness in the line, "You can be my black Kate Moss tonight."

Among other considerations, does it, in turn, make Kanye a black Pete Doherty? What are you trying to tell us?
