And You Thought Brandon's Voice Sounded Strained On "When We Were Young" Before...
You guys have been writing about the scene during the Killers show at Red Rocks in Colorado last night where, after two songs, B. Flo called it quits on the set. Merry Swankster was there and reports:
Brandon Flowers was visibly and audibly upset while singing "When You Were Young" and walked off the stage. Ending what first appeared to be a moment of lyrical forgetfulness and turning it into an extended break with PA music turned on in an attempt to distract from the empty stage at the base of the sandstone monoliths.Roughly ten minutes later, drummer Ronnie Vannucci, Jr. offered the confused crowd an explanation, which Swankster captured for posterity.
The audience at that point sounds, eh, 50% supportive and 50% lynch-mob-y. But the same news coming from a supposedly qualified medical professional? Crowd wasn't having it. Check it after the jump.
Note to Flowers: If you get sick, don't send the doc on stage -- it'll only make you look like more of a wussy and incite your audience. Just pull an Axl and walk off (that always ended well, right?).

Blessing in disguise for Red Rocks I say.

what an unbelievable fucking pussy! is this not the least rock n roll thing you've ever fucking heard?
Score = 0
Only slightly less rock'n'roll than their insipid "music", yes.

That's about as rock n' roll as an orthopedic backrest.
What a little fucking prince. Grow some balls. In the meantime, the rest of us'll just keep slugging along in our significantly lesser-compensated real world jobs, disregarding bouts of the sniffles and not listening to your shitty fucking band.

This? Is awesome. Dude gets what he deserves for being an asshole. And something told me to never forgive him three years ago when he tried to jump a woman I was assisting during a music fest. I wish I were kidding.

Come on you guys he couldn't sing, what's he supposed to do? He already has anxiety problems talking to the crowd between songs as is so I doubt he could deal with telling the fuming bunch that they're ending the set early. Why does everything have to turn into how he's such a supposed ass?

There's even a press release:
"THE KILLERS’ BRANDON FLOWERS RECUPERATING FROM BRONCHITIS
FULL RECOVERY EXPECTED FOR FlOWERS
(May 18th 2007 – New York, NY) Island recording group The Killers’ lead singer Brandon Flowers has been recovering from bronchitis. Not wanting to cancel any of their concert dates, Flowers performed yesterday in Denver, CO at the Red Rocks Amphitheater against the advice of his personal doctor. After 2 songs, his voice went out and the in house physician would not let him return. The Killers are confirmed to perform at Red Rocks on September 4th.
As of this writing, The Killers are expected to continue the rest of their U.S. tour."

show some decency, people! no matter how you feel about the band, he got terribly sick and in turn disappointed a lot of those fans waiting to see a great show from the band. yup, great show. the killers have proven they're a formidable live act, judging from the countless music fests they're playing in this summer (most of which they're the headliners).
imagine what it would have been like to be in that position. would you have had enough guts to face the crowd and tell them that even though they stood in line for hours and went through opening acts they might not have liked, that you were cancelling the show?

That doctor looked like Heavy D. Suspicious.

I wonder if Brandon was a better singer when he was young?

Absolutely NOT a fan. At least twice this past weekend in here in Denver I heard the phrase "crowd in near riot mood" from people who attended.
A riot? Really? Based on the band's appeal, it'd have involved more hair pulling and nail scratching than the riots you typically see on TV.
For what it's worth, the band announced Sunday, that they will do a FREE makeup show in September .... when it can be either really nice or SNOWY at this altitude.
For bragging purposes, I have Red Rocks tix for the Dylan/MMJ show AND the Ryan Adams show at Red Rocks in August PLUS Black Angels/Vietnam TONIGHT.
Now ....if we could get the Arctic Monkeys to play Red Rocks, or anywhere in this part of the world, sometime, I'd be ecstatic.

I'v decided to go to the september concert. Anyone else who is going might want to bring a get well balloon. It might help Flower's remember the awsome may concert. THANKS!

The usual assortment of barbed comments. At least Brandon tried. How many of you would have carried on with a bad throat. I think he is great and in every concert gives his best and gets the crowds going. So just give him a break for a change.
