The New Pornographers Challenge Letterman To A Bout Of "My Rights Versus Yours"

It's been a few weeks since Carl & Christy's got hitched, so the New Pornographers had ample time to rest up after the NP nuptials and bring Challengers to Letterman's live studio audience last night. There's a Neko but no Destroyer (not with them on this NYC trip -- sorry Bowery Ballroom -- choosing to join for the Pornos' jaunt through the city for October's Webster Hall shows instead). Watch Mr. Newman's picking hand after the pick-up, rocking that power-pop shuffle. And while you're keyed in on Carl, note the downward cast eyes. And the piece of paper on the ground in front of him. Lyrics sheet? Maybe it wasn't ample time to rest up post-wedding after all! Anyway Carl, forget paper -- do it Axl style.

Newman looks a bit like Will Ferrell, doesn't he? Kind of alarming.

Anybody know if Neko will be with them on the Challengers tour?

That's pretty great actually.

I think Neko is a definite on this leg of the tour. I'd really want Dan to join up with them again though.

You may want to check the NP's messageboard regularly for tour personnel updates. That's how I've been keeping track of who's in or out.

The cameraman wasn't showing the love for Neko and her sparse "Oooooh"s and "a new empire in rags" backup lyrics.

Goddamn Stereogum randomly working spam interceptor intercepted the comment I posted here last night and, contrary to the claim displayed, my comment is not here yet. Fuck you, Stereogummers.

Naw, Newman looks more like the close-cropped GI Joe I had on my toy shelf when I was 6.

Newman's got much better eye sight than I do if he can read that lyric sheet all the way down there.

Also, Kathryn > Neko.

It could be chords or form or somethin (like, rather than lyrics) that he's reading. Would be easier to see from the floor.

That's Brendan Ryan formerly of The Bogmen and now of Mad Larry playing a horn in the background . . . anyone know if this is a one time gig?
