The Pretenders Bring Letterman "Boots Of Chinese Plastic"

thumbnail icon: The Pretenders Bring Letterman "Boots Of Chinese Plastic"

Chrissie and the Pretenders got a warm intro from Mr. Letterman last night, moments before the band performed the rockabilly and ramshackle "Boots Of Chinese Plastic" from their just released (today!) ninth album Breaking Up The Concrete. I tried not to type "by the way Chrissie looks fantastic in her boots of Chinese plastic" but whoops there it is, and how is it you can look like that at 57, and damn. Ex-Son Volt man Eric Heywood provides the pedal steel licks, Pernice Brother James Whalbourne provides even more licks, and Ms. Hynde provides the kiss to David's cheek.

He's not letting go of that hand anytime soon. Break Up The Concrete is out via Shangri-La Music.

Love Chrissy but I'd still rather plug Lindsey B's "Gift of Screws" title track. It's the early 80's in the most tasteful way... makes me want to put on a Japanese print headband and be Pete Fardon...except for the dying.

That wasn't Eric Heywood. That was Mark Spencer on pedal steel.

Fucking Great! The best The Pretenders have sounded since the mid 80s.

Reminds me of 'hot' times in Glasgow just before an air raid. Too bad Rebus has left the room, 'though I expect Rankin will give them honourable mention when Rebus returns. Pretty darn good stuff.
