The Walkmen Usher "In The New Year" On Conan

thumbnail icon: The Walkmen Usher "In The New Year" On Conan

On Inauguration Night, Hamilton dedicated this song and its "I know that it's true, it's gonna be a good year"s to President Barack Obama. A week later the tune's falling-downstairs groove makes a good platform for Ham to cock his head back and croon, and intensely stare down the cameras, over at 30 Rock. And for once, when Conan comes out to congratulate the band, he has someone to look at in the eye. Watch it at nbc.com (click Chapter 5 for their performance).

It's sad that bands like the Walkmen and others probably won't be featured as much when Conan takes over the Tonight Show.

I wish they had played On the Water, that song is just too amazing!

At one point I was waiting for The Blue Route - I read somewhere that it was going to be their second single.

Anyhoo, maybe we'll continue to have these bands on the Late Late show... er, don't know what Jimmy Fallon is into... or better yet, maybe Conan will continue to feature bands like this but on the Tonight show(!)

"The Blue Route" is indeed their second single, and it's been out on 7" in the UK since November:

Yeah it seems if NBC has their way Conan will be forced to act like he enjoys the mainstream artists that he has on the Tonight Show.

I was at the Walkmen show inauguration night, really great. The songs from You & Me were dazzling, especially the aforementioned which I think they played 2nd if I recall correctly.

They're playing at inauguration but aren't "mainstream"?

They played in LA the night of the inauguration, not actually AT the inauguration. I think you might have gotten that confused.

The show might have been close to sold out, but definitely not a packed house. Beach House and Jonny and the Moon (led by guitarist from Hot Hot Heat/Wolf Parade) played with them.

This doesn't have anything to do with The Walkmen, but Conan was gold on Inside the Actor's Studio on Monday night...
