The White Stripes Set To Do The Icky Thump

Taking Brit slang "ecky thump" (as in "What the ecky thump is that?") and misspelling it for "kicks" and "metaphors," The White Stripes have announced the title for their 6th studio effort -- and it's "their first album to include a title track, which curiously (and not ironically) has the same words in it's [sic] name." This comes via an oh-so-zany message on the band's site, telling us how long the album took to record ("It was the longest time the delightful duo have ever spent in the studio, totaling almost three weeks"), and the release date ("as soon as corporately possible"). Also, they offer up these song titles:

"Catch Hell Blues"
"Little Cream Soda"
"Monkeys Have It Easy" (discarded)
"Rag and Bone"
"Clicky Bump" (retitled into something pleasant)
"Blue Orchid" (relocated to previous album)
"You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)"
You can watch Jack singing "I'm Slowly Turning Into You" (with a dancing skeleton in the background) if you've got QT. The site update is credited to "Kitayna Ireyna Tatanya Kerenska Aliso," reporting for that bastion of journalism the "MOSCOW BUGLE." Raconteurs were cute, but we're glad Jack and Meg are getting back to business. Judging by all the email we received about it (thanks all!), we're thinking you did too. No word on band attire color scheme yet. We'll keep ya posted.

UPDATE: Video of "I'm Slowly Turning Into You" after the jump. (Thanks, Jack!)

hey the whole thing with the russian reporter is from the original batman:the movie with adam west. it was catwoman's disguise for getting close to bruce wayne, and they called her "ms. kitka" for short. i watched that movie everyday when i was a kid and would recognize "the moscow bugle" anywhere.

It's true: I watched it religiously myself.

i could not be more excited about this either. i've watched that video about ten times already. the bagpipe comment is just increasing my excitement. what do people think about the note on the site that the music in that clip got changed to avoid 'song poaching'? it still sounds like the real stripes to me.

I hope it's better than their last effort. I duge "Get Behind Me..." but they could churn out something better. I'm actually kind of interested in hearing the next Raconteurs effort.

OK first of all, Jack has sold out a little bit. He signed the Stripes to Warner Bros. What the fruck is up with THAT? What happened to his "screw the industry" ideals? Besides that, if you actually read up (aka MOJO magazine) you'd know that Jack's wife came up with the album title. Jack sold himself short over a long span of time. He's even told reporters that he spent the most time on this album than any other and that he and Meg tried to make it very complicated. What happened to his simple "Robert Johnson formula" to prove to everyone that you don't need a big studio and expensive equipment or a major label to make great music? I'm a little depressed, but I guess I'll buy Icky Thump anyway cause I'm a long-time fan. :(
