The Decemberists Cover Heart

thumbnail icon: The Decemberists Cover Heart

We've seen live videos of the Decemberists doing Decemberists tunes everywhere from The Colbert Report to The Tonight Show (Leno version) lately, but those professional clips don't contain half the thrill of this fan-captured-yet-still-electrifying cover of Heart's "Crazy On You." The ladies Diamond (My Brightest and Lavender) are cast as the Sisters Wilson and hopefully Colin noted how well it went. (If he gets 'em for another LP, less of the mythical prog and more songs resembling this one would be smart.)

(via YANP)

That was filmed at the band's show in St. Louis at The Pageant on May 31st. Lucky crowd.

Attention please: The 70's ended 30 years ago.

Aww, that's a shame. I wish I could still enjoy music from that decade. I guess that also means I can't watch Taxi Driver again. Dammit.

They did this again last night in Columbus, absolutely amazing to see the ladies wail like that. Bit of a shock to see Becky Stark take on this song so well.

Played it last night in Columbus OH as well..ironic because Heart is playing the same arena here in like a month.

Yeah, they played it in Milwaukee a few nights earlier too and then St. Louis and Columbus, so it seems to be a midwest tour staple to make up for the first part of the show.

Maybe it was just because I was there....and pretty close to the stage, but I thought it was even better in Columbus. Just another great part of an AMAZING show.

Yeah, it seems that way, but it's probably because you were there, but it was pretty amazing in Columbus. They rocked the shit out of it... And I was front row!

Also did it in KC last Wednesday. Shara Warden knocked this song out. Between this cover and her performances in the first half, she stole the show in my opinion.

Saw it in milwaukee on Friday as well. Shara Warden kicks ass. I kind of felt bad for the other girl, because shara was getting ovations all night everytime she came to center stage to sing.

This was awesome.
BTW: Indie rock to encore classic rock covers I've seen this year:
New Porngraphers - Don't Bring Me Down (ELO)
Of Montreal - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Decemeberists - Crazy On You

That "Smells Like Teen Spirit" now qualifies as classic rock makes me feel very, very old. But I guess it was an instant classic.

Was an instant classic sure, but it's also only a few years shy of 20 years old. We are getting old, Johnnyboy. We are getting old.

Amazing cover. I'd much rather hear someone cover Heart than the latest Carrie Underwood or whatever. Some things are classics, some things are not.

I'm quite sure it was the best song of the night at the Milwaukee show, although there were many moments that challenged it. It was simply outstanding.

I saw Heart about a year ago; the wife dragged me there. Nancy Wilson is still hotter than either of these girls, and Ann Wilson still belts out this song better as well.

Saw them do it in Columbus and it was just plain incredible. Can't believe how *big* their sound has gotten in general. They really rocked out on this one, though, it sounded fantastic.

Hey Stereogum music snob...remember, Heart had plenty of mystical prog, and also you'll be lovin' prog in a year anyway, when it's cool to again.
