This Week The Roots Became Comedy Central's House Band

thumbnail icon: This Week The Roots Became Comedy Central's House Band

The most fabulous Roots crew have a new record out soon, and it looks like they're raising awareness by any means necessary: whether that entails collaborating with a Fall Out boy (see "Birthday Girl"), enlisting a porn star in their video (ditto), or doing two live performances in three nights for Comedy Central. The first came Sunday night as part of the charitably motivated Night Of Too Many Stars, and then last night ?uestlove and guitarist Captain Kirk Douglas joined together to do two quick ditties for The Colbert Report: Dorito's Spicy Sweet Pennsylvania Primary Coverage, in their hometown (Chill-adelphia, The City Of Brotherly Crunch, if you're up on your Stephen's brought-to-you-by-Doritos-lingo). First up it's The Colbert Report theme song.

For their second song, the Roots get patriotic with "The Star Spangled Banner," which we know them to merge with Dylan's "Masters Of War." Not last night's though.

Also, the Roots recently shot a vid; doesn't look like Sasha's invited this time. More clips from Colbert's first night in Philly here. And about that Night Of Too Many Stars performance, yeah we can't find that video. But here's the night's other big musical number.

Our tag cloud thanks you.
