Thom Yorke Does "Reckoner" For The Age Of Stupid

thumbnail icon: Thom Yorke Does "Reckoner" For The Age Of Stupid

During one of our endless pitstops along the way to rounding up Thom's incessant activity of late (Editor's Note: Not complaining), we told you to keep your eyes peeled for The Age Of Stupid's premiere and panel discussion event on 9/21, which promised Kofi Annan, Gillian Anderson, and a Mr. Yorke acoustic performance. Except that was more a figure of speech because obviously we were going to keep our eyes peeled for you. Reportedly the Radiohead fountainhead was meant to perform the global warming docudrama's title track (Thom hates global warming, FYI), but instead we got a solo version of "Reckoner." Solo, which is Thom's mode of choice these days. Anyway this take on "Reckoner" is enough to take anyone's breath away. A vampire's even.

The Age Of Stupid is out internationally. Here's a trailer:

the age of stupid was incredible. the kind of film that leaves you unable to do anything but all you can to help.

I saw the film and this performance last night. It's a great movie, which really points out the urgency and importance of climate change. In other words, WAKE THE HELL UP, PEOPLE.

Thanks to Mr. Yorke for being a part of this!

Or, instead of going off of some fringe scientist's blog, you can start reading today's biggest scientific publications. You will definitely see a consensus among the most prominent scientific organizations... humans ARE causing most of the warming.

I am not convinced by this movie nor An Inconvenient Truth that global warming is happening and is man made. Maybe yes, maybe no. Climate is always changing. There are many respected scientiists who say it's not true or is has nothing to do with carbon dioxide or greenhouse gasses . I am however a Thom Yorke fan but that does not sway my opinion one way or another. I've never really listened to what rock stars have to say. Cool song though!

the respected scientists you refer to are, in most cases, on corporate payrolls, commissioned to do environmental studies on corpoorations' behalf (note the implicit bias). if you're not persuaded by movies, read a book - Ishmael is a great start; not even that great narratively, but a cogent reminder that this small earth was once pristine and that we are now fucking it up/using it up at exponential, unsustainable levels. Also, it was written 17 years ago, before all this global warming hoopla

Someone asked me why he would choose to play an acoustic version of Reckoner of all songs, since Thom alone on the guitar doesn't sound too spectacular. This should change his mind.

Also...great movie!

You're a tad too late. Thom and Jonny already started the Holy Church of W.A.S.T.E. in the 90s. A religion dedicated to finding a place to put your trash.

I thought his guitar playing was quite well suited for the harrowing performance.

it was global cooling in the 70's, then it was global warming. now it's climate change. as if, the climate has never changed on Earth before and we are living through something new. laughable thom. find a better cause because there are many out there.

ha classic. when someone disagrees with one of the Lefts main beliefs, first course of action is to insult. There are legit experts who agree and those who disagree. Let them hash it out before you take it as an absolute truth. But you can't understand that can you? If Al Gore says it, it must be true. Educate yourself kid.

99% of scientists agree that climate change is happening, and that it is man made. If 99% of 100 doctors told you you had cancer, you'd probably accept that you had cancer. This HAS been hashed out, and if people call you names, it's quite possibly because you're an idiot. Not only that but the possible (nay probable) effects of climate change (look up melting permafrost for example) are far worse than you are allowing yourself to imagine. If you are still eating the denialist shit that the corporations and ideological nutjobs are feeding you, you are welcome to your ignorance when it all falls around your ears. I am angry at you for making me bother to write this comment....you will still deny all the evidence tomorrow. But maybe some others will go and look at the facts. We are in deep trouble and until we trust in a clean energy future and put our effort and energies into it, we will not escape the piper....

Here's an idea for those who don't believe that the pollution we produce is not hurtful to others and the environment, strap yourself to the back of a bus and breathe in the "laughable" exhaust for a day. Let us know how you feel after and how it wouldn't obviously have an effect the ozone layer.

Most of you probably pull all these statistics out of your ass or pull them from some second rate website yet you all seem so sure of what your saying... this is why our world sucks 99% of the time. (and i pulled that statistic out of my ass)
