Thunderant - Episode 2: "Feminist Bookstore"

We're sure you remember the nice date between Fred Armisen and Carry Brownstein in Thunderant's debut, "This Is Nice." Well, the Sleater-Kinney ex and SNL funny man are back at it, this time with a bit more hair.

Carrie dropped us a line this a.m. to explain the duo's second short film, "Feminist Bookstore"...

"We filmed it this summer in Portland. Fred and I play bookstore owners who are more concerned with our politics than making a sale." Your hosts Toni and Candace are also into cat 'n' dog yoga and firewalking, not so into yoga for kids or flyers that talk about anuses.

Watch it at thunderant.com, which launched today. Carrie tells us, "Aside from videos, the site features notes on the sketches, MP3's, outtakes, photos, and eventually we'll put the obligatory blog up there." We hate seeing "obligatory" and "blog" in the sentence, but you won't regret visiting the Feminist Bookstore. While you're there, make sure to stock up on vegan cookbooks 'n' a new set of crystals.

I'm sorry, but all of these clips are really half-baked, overly long, and a little unfunny in a painful way. Shame.

I huge improvement over the first two installments! Now I have hope that this may turn out to be a funny series. I still want to see them do a music video, maybe something early 90's with flannel, high waisted jeans, and over the top angsty lyrics.

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...

Horse Feathers - "Father"

Portland songwriter Justin Ringle's evocative vocal twang and sharp lyricism are at the center of Horse Feathers' bedroom Americana. The band's second album House With No Home, which follows 2006's Words Are Dead, finds Ringle's vision fleshed out by multi-instrumentalist/composer...
