TV On The Snow Patrol

Gary Lightbody of Irish Braff-rock band Snow Patrol talks to AOL Music about his band's popularity since lending "Chasing Cars" to the season finale of Grey's Anatomy.

"It's very strange to have people coming to the band just on the back of one song, 'cause we're very much an albums band and we want to win people over with our live show or whole record rather than some TV show they saw."
But he approved a Grey version of the video anyway.

Anatomy premieres tonight (after The Office, on a different channel). I haven't really seen it, but my wife says it's not bad, and someone I lived with in college once dated Izzie. Or fucked her. I forget which.

Open Your Eyes from the same album was featured prominently and to good effect in the season finale of ER as well.

They're a great band who never got the recognition they should have in the US. I would have rathered seen them gain popularity in a better way than Grey's Anatomy but, either way, they deserve it.

it's a sad world we live in when great bands like snow patrol who worked their asses off for years had to have its song included in a soundtrack for a crappy TV show to be recognized.

That show should be called "Gay's Anatomy."

Snow Patrol are Scottish. And awful.

Check out Reindeer Section instead.

Haha. How are Reindeer Section better? Lightbody lends his voice to half the songs and it sounds pretty much like Snow Patrol. What an odd comment.

SP are originally Irish but based out of Glasgow. And Reindeer Section is a side project of Gary Lightbody's -- he's still the pricipal songwriter so it is an odd comparison. I do agree, though, that the Reindeer Section songs are a bit more interesting than the last two SP discs, which are way too slickly produced. The Jeepster material is far better.

I just wish Snow Patrol would realize that a) Songs for Polarbears is better than what they've put out recently, and b) that people in the US in fact own it.

"Braff-rock"? How sad. Not because you said it, but because it's so true.

I gotta say that I saw a bunch of shows this summer and Snow Patrol's was the best. (Please don't tell me I just need to go to better shows.) I saw some of my favorite artists perform this summer and while I expected a good show from SP, their performance went beyond my expectations. Can't say that about lots of other artists I got to see perform this year (too many were just OK).

SP had lots of energy, you can tell they're really enjoying what they do, they get really into it, and all around seem like a nice bunch of guys. They seem to be getting lots of movie and tv airplay, and to that I say good for them. Maybe some people go see them to hear "Chasing Cars," but at the show I went to, people around me knew all the songs. I will definitely catch them live again.

But what do I know? I like Snow Patrol and Death Cab (stop with the DCFC hating already people!) and Coldplay (gulp) and yeah even The Shins (no, they didn't change my life), too, so I guess I like Braff-rock. And I will not apologize for it! :)

I don't care if Snow Patrol "sold out" with "Gay's Anatomy" or Chasing Cars or whatever, they still are one of my favorite bands.

And why would anyone want to watch "Gay's Anatomy" or Scrubs when there is Family Guy. Even the new episodes are better than most of the crap spewed out of American television airwaves.

Got forced into watching this terrible show. Funny, during a "flashback" sequence that took place over 2 years ago, they were at a party that was playing Gnarls Barkley "Gone Daddy Gone" cover.

If a music supervisor cant catch this, then what the hell are they getting paid for?

This show is just a watered down version of Sex in the City, but not even half as good. Which isnt saying much.

Its a generic show for generic people.

Your friend from college was lucky. Katherine Heigl is the ONLY reason why any straight man needs to watch Grey's Anatomy.

There's no reason on Earth why "Run" (the "light up" song) shouldn't have been a MONSTROUS hit, moreso than it was. IF it were still legal to show cigarette advertisments on TV, Phillip-Morris would've had a can't-miss commercial theme on their hands.

I think Snow Patrol is a decent band, but I don't really get that "Chasing Cars" song. It never really builds into anything.

Yeah gray's anatomy is gay. and any band who actually sells albums due to being on a tv show or soundtrack is a sellout. yeah, im so f*ckin indie rock it hurts.

grow up.

i heard an interview with them where they say they have no say as to wether or not they want the song to appear on a show ,the record companies have deals with the tv shows, they only get to say yay or nay to movies, blah blah blah, so they didnt sell out, in fact in the interview they kinda seemed annoyed about it...

I have to say it feels a little artificial to see video from a TV show intercut with the original music video. Esp since the visual quality and color depth is so different between the two.
