Vampire Weekend Talk Blogs, Byrne, Crunk On MTV

What a whirlwind career it's been for Vampire Weekend. And by career we mean 18 months of course. But in that time the band's nabbed themselves a BTW designation, blessings for from indie pop Godfathers old and new, a European tour opening for the Shins, and the opportunity to define "crunk" (n.) for the Oxford English Dictionary. OK the last one has little to do with the band and more to do with Rostam Batmanglij's OED internship. But still John Norris is impressed! Here the band performs a bit for skull-capped Norris and talks a bit about the Byrne love, the blog hype.

Hype Machine screenshot cameo! In running through the genre-blenders' laundry list of achievements, John never got around to talking up their cover for OKX, one of the comp's many and varied highlights and earning the band their first P4K mention (a positive one at that).

Vampire Weekend - "Exit Music (For A Film)" (MP3)

Weird that they took off Boston, especially since it's the B-side for the Mansard Roof single, retitled "Ladies of Cambridge". Is this a confirmed track listing?

Nothing like seeing the most horrifying and adventurous track on OK Computer turned into a soul-less dance diddy.

It took about 10 seconds total of listening to the band and then to their music to fully encompass what 'prep rock' truly is. No thanks.

Wow, Tommy. You listened for all of 10 seconds... you really know how to give new music a chance. While you're trying to score some cheap weed at a Radiohead concert the rest of us will be enjoying the freshest sounds to hit the airwaves in years.

You know, it'd really be a kind favour if a band with a name like 'Vampire Weekend' would be a little more Google-friendly. I used to dabble in the Goth scene years back, and on a search for something completely unrelated, I saw in the entry 'Vampire Weekend' 'El Mocambo' (yes, I know it's not necessarily a goth club, but it's served the purpose on occasion) and getting here, find that it has absolutely nothing to do with Goth or Vamp fandom. (My first thought was that Savage Garden might be doing a festival thing.). It's not that I take any umbrage at this, it's just that with a name like 'Vampire Weekend' and the limited space a Googleshot gets, this may mislead a lot of people who aren't familiar with the band, especially since VW apparently has nothing to do with black glam/goth. Either way, this blog managed to pique my interest nonetheless- I plan on looking for them at Rotate This next time I'm down on Queen.
