Walkmen Play The Guggenheim, Have Arty Video To Prove It

thumbnail icon: Walkmen Play The Guggenheim, Have Arty Video To Prove It

On Friday (8/14), the Walkmen played the Guggenheim Museum with High Places as part of the "It Came From Brooklyn" concert series. Ray Concepcion captured a portion of the Walkmen's set in a high-quality video he dedicates to Les Paul. He notes it was "filmed in one continuous shot" and that "[a]ll visual effects were done in the camera, as [he] was shooting." He also notes headphones are recommended for playback, so please plug-in to capture the ambiance of the space. As far as songs, you get the well-traveled "In The New Year" along with fellow You & Me tracks "On The Water" and "Red Moon."

"In The New Year"

"On The Water"

"Red Moon"

The Walkmen can also be found at Monolith and Austin City Limits.

I've liked this band for a few years, but seeing them yesterday totally did me in. They are fabulous, classy dudes. What a fantastic show. Hamilton's voice has really progressed in the last few years. He sounds like a grittier Sinatra.

My favorite American live act. Only the Super Furry Animals and Art Brut compare (in terms of how enjoyable the show is). The Rat (every time they play it) is the most perfect four minutes of live music I've ever seen.

Truth: "The Rat" - I felt like my balls dropped the first time I heard that one live.

The concert was awesome. I don't really get this "artsy look" of the filming. Screwing with the focus, focusing on shadows for long periods of time. I would rather see straight up good cinematography. The sound was very good though.

Someone needs to take away his fucking zoom lense. You're in a gorgeus building, with a dynamic, energized, great live rock band, the music is huge, you don't need to energize it with the most annoying aesthetic ever.

The performance is absolutely amazing. And I actually like how he approached shooting the footage, you can tell he knows the songs and is playing along with them visually... but yeah, it gets obnoxious sometimes.
