White Rabbits Bring Their "Percussion Gun" To Letterman
Brooklyn sextet White Rabbits brought their crowd-pleasing post-Stomp indie rock to The Late Show last night via "Percussion Gun," the appropriately percussive opening track from their just-released, Britt Daniel-produced It's Frightening. But it's not frightening (try Mastodon instead). Letterman's excited about the "tremendously talented" Rabbits from the get go, and afterward the studio audience is all worked up too.
White Rabbits - "Percussion Gun" (MP3)
It's Frightening is out now via TBA.

you should post their music video.
Score = 2
No Jason, you should: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IClBpch9vmM

this album is gold
Score = 5
Saw them open for the Walkmen last January, then caught them again with the Walkmen and Spoon a couple months later and became a fan. I've listened to the new album a couple times already, and I think it's better than Fort Nightly. Really good from start to finish, whereas I thought Fort Nightly bogged down a bit in the second half.
Score = 3
i saw them open for the walkmen too. After them and the walkmen i walked out before spoon.
Score = -5
Where have you been, gum? White Rabbits have been "bringing" it for years now.
Score = 4
Holy shit, that was good.
Score = 3
this song is great. it takes the bones from the first album and just pushes ahead full bore. the rest of the album is not as bold but is much more consistent than fort nightly. so good.
Score = 3
Gentlemen Outstanding! the entire album proves moving to the next is important! Great songs, everything works. So much talent guys! Keep working. Dennis M. Clark
Score = 2
Wow, that song is AMAZING live.
And it's not enough for them to sound like spoon, have opened for them, and have had britt produce this cd, but now their singer is starting to LOOK and act like him too? AWESOME.
Score = 4
When did Letterman start exclusively booking indie bands?
Score = 3
When Conan moved to LA and Dave found himself with all of Brooklyn at his disposal.
Score = 4
It's only may and It's Frightening is already my album of the year. They really brought it. Intense, beautiful performance!
Score = 3
Dave wants to be cool too.
Score = 10
I really liked Fort Nighly, though I agree with the person that said that it died down a bit.
Have not listened to this album yet, but I'm digging this new song. It's on my list. :)
Score = 2
this is fucking great. awesome song.
Score = 4
While flipping channels between a reunited Blink-182 on Leno and this indie band I had never heard of before on Letterman... I was blown away by the latter.
Score = 5
HAHAA! THE BASS PLAYER PLAYED AN EXTRA NOTE ONCE THE SONG WAS OVER!!! WHAT A TURRRD!!
Score = -7
That's how the song ends. Listen to the MP3.
Score = 5
Nice to see people are still getting use out of those old Adam & The Ants beats.

Exactly what I thought. Now if bands would just bring back the snarly, bi-polar vocals, we'd be all set.
Score = 3
I saw White Rabbits about a year or two ago at this little club in Dekalb, Illinois and they had 2 local bands open for them who sucked ass and then when they came on there were only about 13 people there and you could tell they hated it. But i had come specifically to see them because Fort Nightly was one of my favorite albums and they still played an ammmazing show. I'm looking forward to years of gold from this band, especially after hearing It's Frightening.
Score = 3
They sound kind of like Keane to me. I liked the performance, and i will check out their album, but something just reminded me of Keane. Maybe like a kick-ass, not too douchey Keane.
Score = -3
isn't that drum track exactly ripped off from C30 C60 C80 Bowowow song? i don't think i have the name right.. anybody?
Score = -1
Bow Wow Wow was formed when Malcolm McLaren convinced the guitarist, bassist and drummer from Adam & The Ants to form a new group. When they left, they took their fancy, new Burundi-influenced beats with them.
Score = 2
YES IT IS AN EXACT RIP OFF OF C30! And it is worth noting Mr. Fussy Trousers, music historian. Especially when the beat is the most distinctive thing about the song and it is not a sample (which by its format indirectly acknowledges the original) Its a bit lame to lift something so unadulterated and not provide even an ironic nod to the source.
Score = 0
Why are you people talking about beats being ripped off? A lot of people use the same beats. Beats are meant to be reused, they are not unique in every song. Morons. Ever heard of the Purdie Shuffle or Take Five's 5/4 beat?
Score = 1
::wonders if I'll get voted down for suggesting that this song reminds me of something off of Muse's first couple of records::
Score = 0
>.< the guitar reminds me a lot of radiohead. still the song is pretty good.
Score = 2
Yeah, Gum, post that shit! Their video is f'ing incredible: http://vimeo.com/4461483

More boring Brooklyn dudes in cardigans making boring music. in the red, -36
Score = 1
you know by predicting your own score, people are just going to try to ensure it doesn't reach that prediction right?
Score = 2
amazing. what a great band. anyone have extra tix to their show at bowery ballroom thursday?
Score = 0
this is so much better than the actual studio recording. their album is a little boring for me but i'd like to see them live.
Score = 1
I wasn't feeling it. Though it started to finish strong the whole song and band just seems to be trying too hard to be like something- instead of reaching it.
Score = 0
Radiohead anyone?
Score = -2
yea, the guitar riff was a complete Radiohead rip-off; not just the style, but a note-for-note rip of a song I can't remember right now.
Score = -4
They should have bumped this for an electric car advert instead of Grizzly Bear
Score = -2
thought a lovely rip off of the strokes, with a bit of adam ant too.
Score = -1
I hear Cold War Kids mixed with Spoon.
Score = 4
this does not sound like 15 step
Score = 0
why is it that the only gig this band can get in new york is on the letterman show?
Score = 0
I've seen White Rabbits live in Portland, OR, at The Doug Fir. I have to say that Percussion Gun rips off the drums and some of the percussion from the guitar in Adam and The Ants' "Kings of the Wild Frontier". White Rabbits are good musicians with decent lyrics. However, I feel like they are running through cool songs of the eighties and sampling them into their own songs as if they were hip-hop artists. The effect is good but for some reason I'm still peaved. Any ideas?
Score = -1
All this talk about ripping off songs. I'll bet they hadn't even heard the Adam & Ants song when they wrote Percussion Gun. The guys were probably just banging on toms and found a cool groove and everyone really was into it. Pretty much no bands purposefully take parts of songs from other songs. No one thinks that is a cool thing to do, neither does it fulfill their creativity. it just happened. Either way the song still is original.
Score = 1
Dips is a DIPSHIT! That beat he so casually disregards as public domain is actually Bow Wow Wow's signature sound!!! The Burundi-style beat is unique to that band. Bitin' it calls for White Rabbits to BITE IT!
Score = 0
Yes, and before that Adam and The Ants. Nothing's original. But you can't argue these guys kick ass.
