Wilco Bring "You Never Know" To Conan

thumbnail icon: Wilco Bring "You Never Know" To Conan

Tweedy and the gang decided to class themselves up for The Tonight Show last night, dusting off the Nudie Suits they debuted at Lollapalooza last year. The band was making good use of an off-night in between a trio of sold-out shows at the Wiltern, and took the late night opportunity to scold America's children with Wilco (The Album)'s "You Never Know." Also, CoCo wants a Wilco suit.

Wilco (The Album) is out 6/30 via Nonesuch. Wilco the band takes Wiltern for the last of its shows there tonight, then pushes on for lots of dates with some fun openers:

Yea, since when did Wilco become an 8 piece? Who is that quiet looking guy in black with the Les Paul??? Also, to point out the refrains on Wilco's newest singles/songs on the tv/radio "Wilco will love you, baby" and "I don't care anymore". The jokes on us guys!

Pretty sure the guy with the black Les Paul is in Conan's band. I assume the other guy playing acoustic won an audience participation contest before the show.

Are those all of Mike Mills suits from REM's Monster tour?

it's out on Tuesday snitches ... that pre-order better arrive on time ... nothing worse than having already paid for something and then not having it on release day

I like this song, but I have a hard time believing Tweedy actually believes what he is saying, considering how seriously he seems to take everything

Hillbillies? Rednecks? Are you guys serious? a) they're from Chicago and b) have you listened to the soundscapes on A Ghost Is Born or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot? Decidedly un-country. Sky Blue Sky was the closest they'd been to country in 10 years, and that was not even close to "hillbilly musak." Besides, NELS Freaking CLINE is their lead guitarist--he's a jazz GOD. Also, the suits are a joke, I hope you realize that. Wilco has an odd sense of humor (Have you seen this album cover?)

Wilco is one of the most forward thinking bands in the business. Someone brought up Animal Collective, which is a totally different beast--forward thinking as well, yes, but a completely different band.

Hillbillies...Jeez, you people are ridiculous.

The more appropriate attire for Tweedy on a tour supporting this album would be a coldplay tshirt and some nice, comfy, dockers. And the dockers would have the pockets stuffed with the dollars you morons paid for the last three albums he's mailed in.

The man with the Les Paul is Labamba from Conan's band and the other guy I'm pretty sure is Will Sheff from Okkervil River, who is opening for Wilco tonight.
This band rules and everyone should just get over their Wilco backlash and commend them for being fantastic musicians and songwriters who are amazing live and are very supportive of the new bands all you hipsters claim have taken over the mantel from Wilco. Jealously does not suit you Wilco haters!

Really?! That probably is La Bamba, but if you're right about Will Sheff, than this is total Camera FAIL. Good song, but La Bamba and Will Sheff were totally unnecessary.

I love Wilco so I guess that makes me a hillbilly. Oh well. Why are you guys letting these simple folk get to you? If they're too cool to dig Wilco it's their problem, let 'em move, who cares? (And really? Changing residences because of "bands like this"?). Anyway, love the new album, and I know I'm probably in the minority, but the bedazzled suits too. All that said, this is my least favorite song on the album. The only thing that saves the studio version is the Harrison-like slide. You'd think with the 4 guitars they had on stage, one of them could've played it. Where's Jay Bennett when you need him? ...Oh. (Too soon?)

Country or not, that was boring. Way too many strings (are two 12 string guitars, and 2 more acoustics necessary?) and this just reeks of a talented band that have written some boring songs. I'll stick with Yankee Hotel.

yankee hotel foxtrot was not groundbreaking or even experimental. adding stale background noise in the hopes of polishing tweedys songturds into something meaningful is not artistic experimentation. wilco has been extremely boring and pointless for a very long time.

I guess there's alot of cerebral stuff to like, and I like cerebral, but there has to be something there viscerally for me to like. Where is the CHARISMA? This bores me and I hate hearing their name in those 'Great American Band' arguments and discussions. Bleh!
