Yeah Yeah Yeahs Blitz Hits Letterman

thumbnail icon: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Blitz Hits Letterman

Karen, Brian, Nick, and Pajo took It's Blitz lynchpin "Zero" to the Ed Sullivan Theatre last night for Phase Three of YYYs' four-part NYC takeover this week (set your TiVOs for Fallon tonight). Ms. O didn't spin, jump, or twirl for the song like at their triumphant "secret show" tour tuneup at Santos Sunday night, but she did helpfully indicate which part of her outfit was leather and otherwise morphed her pat poses from sorta tame to completely compelling. Rock. Star. They looked great and sounded better, with an honorary A+ to Letterman's sound team. Shaffer's review: "Karen O is like, rad, man." Dave says not to listen to him, but you can if you want to. Just include the other dudes on stage.

It's Blitz is out now on Interscope.

I'll tell you what, there is no other woman that commands your attention on stage better than KO.

Love or hate, it's just too damn intriguing.

After hearing this performance really snap and groove, it makes me sad that the sound was SO awful on SNL.

The mix was the best i've heard for this song since they've been playing it live, altho there was a bit of feedback, which is surprising for a tv show like that

I bet you they'll do "Head Will Roll" on Fallon. It's the logical "See the rest of the album is just as good as this 'Zero' song you've seen twice now" song. Still crossing my fingers for "Dull Life" though.

That was one of the most hilarious Letterman/Guest interactions ever.

Siouxie Sioux? Aw, come on, give Karen O a little credit. This new album is, as I have said many times, the album Chrissy Hynde should have made last year.

Why would one assume that the TV shows audio crew did the mix?

they always do for every band. Why would you assume YYYs get special treatment? Radiohead didn't

I believe that the sound techs on tv shows are protected by the union and you can't bring in your own engineer. I may be mistaken but am pretty sure that's how it works.

I thought their SNL performance was pretty good, but this was spectacular. The instrumentation is so much better here. I guess Karen's vocals are so good that she can make any performance stellar even when her mic is way too high in the mix (like on SNL).

I won't claim objectivity, since I would watch Karen O cover Celine Dion with Brian and Nick on spoons, but I thought this was pretty fantastic.

Funny how two people can see two very different things. I find Karen o's performances to be joyous and really genuine.

I dig this album, I would have preferred if another song off of it was played over Maps on SNL.

I'm so tired of this anti-Wilco bullshit! The Yeah Yeah Yeahs album cover is an obvious slight to "A Ghost is Born". Wilco had the egg and then the Yeah Yeah Yeahs come along and smash it. It's crass. It's in bad taste. That poor little chickee.
