Video Hangover: Peelander-Z - "S.T.E.A.K."

Every week, we dig in the archives for videos that we find noteworthy, memorable, or just unbelievably stupid. And then, Jon McMillan breaks 'em down for you. Why Video Hangover? Because when you watch as many videos as we do, you're going to feel it afterwards.

"S.T.E.A.K."
Peelander Z, 2003

How do you like to cook your steak?

Here's what I like about Peelander-Z: they're basically a Japanese band pretending to be a Japanese band. Fans of Kaiju Big Battel (or the costume-based Technicolor Japanese hardcore scene) could probably set me straight on the mythology, but in the meantime I'll direct your attention to "S.T.E.A.K." Why the acronym? I have no idea, and, frankly, it seems like way too practical a question to be asking three dudes who so clearly enjoy dressing up as robots. Or aliens. Or robot alien dinosaurs. Whatever. The point is, Peelander-Z are having the best time ever. How much fun are they having? So much fun that when the yellow guy slips off the curb at :28 they don't even bother to stop the procession. They don't have time! They have faces to make. Signs to hold. Lips to synch (sort of). And a whole world of people to educate about steak-ordering protocol.

These guys do Richmond VA about twice a year. This week is #2 already (excitement!). They are amazing dudes, true performers, they do NOT leave you wanting. Want a show you'll never forget due to pots, pans, human bowling, glitter, and confetti? Talk to your local venues and demand.
If someone asks me how I want my steak? Medium Rayyyy-er!
