War Of Independents

War Of The Worlds will make you a little jaded about Independence Day. Battle of Lexington and Concord's got nothing on Battle Of Dakota Fanning and Giant Alien Tripods.

In any case, iTunes is celebrating July 4th by posting a list of its 100 best-selling indie albums. Here are the top 21...

The 21 Best-Selling Independent Albums In Itunes History (iLink)

  • The White Stripes Get Behind Me Satan
  • Give Up The Postal Service
  • The Shins Oh, Inverted World
  • Death Cab For Cutie Transatlanticism
  • Moby Hotel
  • The White Stripes Elephant
  • Napoleon Dynamite Soundtrack
  • The Most Relaxing Classical Music In The Universe
  • Creedence Clearwater Revival Chronicle, Vol. 1
  • The Shins Chutes Too Narrow
  • Elliott Smith From A Basement On The Hill
  • Alison Krauss & Union Station Lonely Runs Both Ways
  • Interpol Antics
  • Madeleine Peyroux Careless Love
  • The Crystal Method Legion Of Boom
  • Zero 7 When It Falls
  • Thievery Corporate The Cosmic Game
  • Jill Scott Beautifully Human, World And Sounds Vol. 2
  • Zero 7 Simple Things
  • Iron & Wine Our Endless Numbered Days
  • Ray Charles Genius Loves Company

Nice to see the diversity of music making strides in the digital arena. Speaking of which, this can be your default forum to discuss (1) the new iPod (2) the Grokster case -- Boing Boing has great coverage.

And don't forget to end world poverty tomorrow. Or you can't have any pudding.

OK, so I got to the second page of the list and saw the Princess Diaries soundtrack and thought to myself, what indie released this? Subpop, Matador, Kill Rock Stars, Touch & Go? no, it's on a little indie called Walt Disney Records.

Whatever iTunes, nice try.

oh sweet jesus, if you make it the 64-84 page we have indie icon Hilary Duff. There is a dubious selection of "indie" labels in here - Hollywood Records? New Line Records?

What exactly is "The Most Relaxing Classical Music In The Universe"? I suppose it makes sense on a list that includes the "The Most Relaxing Indie Pop," ie the Shins, the Postal Service and Iron & Wine.

Isn't V2 records (who put out both those White Stripes albums) an EMI subsidiary like Virgin?

I've seen the late-night commercials -- it is pretty relaxing! ;)

live 8 is bullshit. during the concert, i'd like to see superimposed over the performances what percentage of their monetary worth these huge stars (bono, paul mccartney, etc.) actually give to charity. i'm sure for a lot of them, it's laughable.

same goes for that "make poverty history" campaign that has celebrities talking about it.
if bono and brad pitt got together and pooled maybe 3% of their money, that alone could make more of a difference than all of us "regular people" put together.

Your unfounded, totally subjective opinions cannot even remotely be considered facts. Idiot.

That is, hands down, the worst mashup I've EVER heard.
